Lord Carson dies Grade 2 winner LORD CARSON (Carson City) died on March 16 due to head injuries he suffered while in the breeding shed. The 13-year-old stallion sustained brain damage when he fell after dismounting a mare. Lord Carson stood at Tommy Town Thoroughbreds near Santa Ynez, California, and was buried there. The bay raced three seasons under the tutelage of D. Wayne Lukas and topped his career with a victory in the Boojum H. (G2) in 1996. He retired with a line of 27-12-5-0 and $654,741 in earnings. Other notable wins included the Aristides H. and Kentucky Cup Sprint S., the latter in which he set a Turfway Park track record of 1:08 3/5 for six furlongs. Lord Carson began his stud career at Vinery Kentucky before moving to Tommy Town Thoroughbreds. He sired six crops and produced 152 winners, seven of which were stakes victors. One of those stakes winner was Windsor Castle, who won the Remsen S. (G2) before adding two Grade 3 scores to his resume. To date, Lord Carson's progeny have earned $8,963,773.
