Eclipse finalists announced

On Thursday, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), Daily Racing Form (DRF), and National Turf Writers and Broadcasters (NTWAB) announced the finalists for the 2011 Eclipse Awards, which recognize excellence in Thoroughbred racing.

Winners in all 16 horse and human categories will be announced at the 41st annual Eclipse Awards on January 16 at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, California.

Finalists in the Horse of the Year category will be announced on the night of the ceremony.

Of the 267 eligible voters representing the NTRA, NTWAB and DRF, 248 (92.88 percent) took part in this year's voting. Finalists were determined in each category by voters' top three selections, using a 10-5-1 point basis. Eclipse Award winners are determined solely by first place votes.

The Eclipse Awards finalists (in alphabetical order) are:
