Breeders' Cup rematch at Fasig-Tipton: Dams of Arrogate, California Chrome to sell Monday

California Chrome's dam sells in foal to Tapit at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale (Lauren J. Pomeroy/Horsephotos.com)
The Fasig-Tipton November Sale regularly has a Breeders' Cup theme, and Monday evening's staging is well up to standard. The dams of the top two from Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) – presumptive champion three-year-old colt Arrogate (Unbridled's Song) and all-time North American leading money earner California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit) – headline the offerings at the auction company's Newtown Paddocks near Lexington, Kentucky.

California Chrome's dam, LOVE THE CHASE (Not for Love), sells in foal to leading sire Tapit on an early February 13 cover. The modest performer hit a grand slam with her first foal. She has since produced two full siblings to the dual classic-winning Horse of the Year, but neither has won. Cataloged as Hip No. 59, the 10-year-old mare is consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent. Taylor Made co-owns "Chrome" and will stand the future Hall of Famer upon his retirement, expected following the $12 million Pegasus World Cup (G1) on January 28.

Arrogate's dam, BUBBLER (Distorted Humor), is also 10 years old, but with a much stronger race record than Love the Chase. Bubbler was a four-time stakes winner and Grade 3-placed on the track, and record-setting Travers (G1) winner Arrogate is her first (and currently only racing age) foal. She's now in foal on an April 14 cover to Into Mischief. Offered by Clearsky Farms, agent, Bubbler will enter the ring well after Love the Chase as Hip 110.

The single-session sale, which gets underway at 5 p.m. (EST), is replete with other major winners and their close relations.

Last year's Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) star, STOPCHARGINGMARIA (Tale of the Cat), will sport Hip 87 as a broodmare prospect.

Multiple Grade 1 winner CURALINA (Curlin), third to Stopchargingmaria in 2015 and sixth in Friday's edition of the Distaff, is listed as Hip 123. Curalina's dam, WHATDREAMSRMADEOF (Graeme Hall) (Hip 100), is carrying her full sister.

E.P. Taylor (G1) queen AL'S GAL (English Channel) (Hip 103) was just ninth in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1), while Ballerina (G1) heroine HAVEYOUGONEAWAY (Congrats) (Hip 142) and multiple Grade 2 vixen SPELLING AGAIN (Awesome Again) (Hip 86) both exit unplaced efforts in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1).

Three of this season's notable sophomore fillies – Kentucky Oaks (G1) romper CATHRYN SOPHIA (Street Boss) (Hip 113), Mother Goose (G1) winner OFF THE TRACKS (Curlin) (Hip 70), and multiple Grade 2 scorer GO MAGGIE GO (Ghostzapper) (Hip 136) – are likewise attending the soiree.

Multiple Grade 3 victress MIZZ MONEY (Mizzen Mast) (Hip 65), a full sister to American Derby (G3) hero One Mean Man, hails from the immediate family of Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) winner Tourist (Tiznow). Grade 3 winner PRICEDTOPERFECTION (Temple City) (Hip 76) got a catalog update thanks to her full sister Miss Temple City, a multiple Grade 1 queen and fine fifth in the Mile. Their dam, GLITTERING TAX (Artax), will be offered in foal to Medaglia d'Oro as Hip 135.

HUMOR ME COLONEL (Colonel John) (Hip 148), a half to multiple Grade 1 victor and Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) third Practical Joke (Into Mischief), sells in foal to Shanghai Bobby. WEST COAST CHICK (Malibu Moon) (Hip 99) is a half-sister to Del Mar Futurity (G1) scorer Klimt (Quality Road), most recently eighth in the Juvenile. Two weanlings are half-siblings to Juvenile also-rans – a Gio Ponti half-brother (Hip 49) to FrontRunner (G1) hero Gormley (Malibu Moon) and a Paynter half (Hip 40) to Futurity (G3) scorer Theory (Gemologist).

Multiple stakes winner and Grade 3-placed LIRA (Giant's Causeway) (Hip 58) is a half-sister to Rodeo Drive (G1) winner Avenge (War Front), who was third in the Filly & Mare Turf.

GRAND GLORY (Distorted Humor) (Hip 175) is carrying full sibling to Grade 3 scorer Gloryzapper (Ghostzapper), 11th in the Filly & Mare Sprint. A weanling Midshipman half-sister to Grade 2 winner Irish Jasper (First Defence), eighth in the Filly & Mare Sprint, sports Hip 164.

Recent Autumn Miss (G3) scorer COVER SONG (Fastnet Rock) (Hip 174) is a half to Group 2 winner and Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) ninth Roly Poly (War Front).

Grade 3-winning broodmare CASSATT (Tapit) (Hip 112) comes from the immediate family of Grade 1-placed stakes winner With Honors (War Front), who was ninth in the Juvenile Fillies (G1). Cassatt is currently in foal to Curlin.

Among relatives of past Breeders' Cup performers, three-year-old SOUTHERN GIRL (Tapit) (Hip 172) is a stakes-winning half-sister to 2013 Classic winner Mucho Macho Man (Macho Uno). Four-year-old filly FLYING TIPAT (Tapit) (Hip 133) is a full sister to Grade 1 and 2009 Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Tapitsfly. Canadian Grade 3 scorer SMART SURPRISE (Smart Strike), a half to 2011 Mile winner and sire Court Vision (Gulch), is in foal to Tapit. She's already the dam of current Canadian stakes winner Moonlit Promise (Malibu Moon).

Also likely to attract attention are adult half-sisters to Caravaggio (Scat Daddy) (Hip 89), Exaggerator (Curlin) (Hip 90), and Hard Spun (Danzig) (Hip 107).

Other current notables entered include Gamely (G1) winner ILLUMINANT (Quality Road) (Hip 149); Fleur de Lis (G2) heroine and multiple Grade 1-placed PAID UP SUBSCRIBER (Candy Ride) (Hip 72); Grade 1-placed LUMINANCE (Tale of the Cat) (Hip 60); multiple Grade 2 winner SARAH SIS (Sharp Humor) (Hip 81); unbeaten Matron (G3) victress ARELLA ROCKSTAR (Astrology) (Hip 166) and her weanling half-brother by The Factor (Hip 171); KISS TO REMEMBER (Big Brown) (Hip 177) and Grade 1 winner BIRDATTHEWIRE (Summer Bird) (Hip 108), the respective top two from Saturday's Chilukki (G2); Saturday's River Memories victress SHELBYSMILE (Smart Strike) (Hip 176); and Keeneland debut maiden-winning juvenile BLUE COLLAR (Majestic Warrior) (Hip 173).

Grade 1 winner HER EMMYNENCY (Successful Appeal) (Hip 170) is cataloged as a broodmare prospect, while several other high-profile mares are offered in foal to top stallions.

American Pharoah's first in-foal mares to sell include IM A DIXIE GIRL (Dixie Union) (Hip 150), the dam of Grade 1 winner Mor Spirit (Eskendereya) (and Mor Spirit's weanling full brother is listed as Hip 42); Grade 1-placed stakes winner LIGHT THE CITY (Street Sense) (Hip 55); Grade 1-placed stakes winner MAYBELLENE (Lookin at Lucky) (Hip 62); and Group 3-placed HALLJOY (Halling) (Hip 141).

Last year's Alabama (G1) winner EMBELLISH THE LACE (Super Saver) (Hip 129) is in foal to Uncle Mo, as is SEASIDE ESCAPE (Bernardini) (Hip 83), a full to multiple Grade 1 winner Cavorting.

BAFFLED (Distorted Humor) (Hip 104) is carrying a full sibling to multiple Grade 1 winner Constitution (Tapit). She's also the dam of current Superlative (G2) scorer Boynton (More Than Ready) and Grade 3 winner JACARANDA (Congrats), who sells in foal to Candy Ride as Hip 154.

COOL STORM (Storm Cat) (Hip 119), a full to Bluegrass Cat and dam of Adirondack (G2) winner Nonna Mela (Arch), is in foal to first-season sire Daredevil (119).

Turning to the weanlings, a Galileo filly out of a half to Rags to Riches (A.P. Indy) (Hip 25) promises to light up the ring, as could a Scat Daddy filly (Hip 35) whose second dam is Flute (Seattle Slew). First-crop weanlings by Mucho Macho Man, Strong Mandate and Verrazano, are cataloged, along with youngsters by Orb, Shanghai Bobby, Oxbow, Violence, Dialed In, Gemologist, Tapizar, Maclean's Music, Bodemeister, and such established sires as Kitten's Joy, More Than Ready, Munnings, and Uncle Mo.
