Hip No. 917, MOMENT OF MAJESTY, a multiple stakes-winning daughter of Saint Liam in foal to Curlin, sold for $850,000 to Star Guitar Inc. to lead Friday's fourth session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

During the session, the second of two days that make up Book 2 of the sale, Keeneland sold 220 horses for a total of $21,280,500, down 14.92 percent from the fourth session last year when 224 horses brought $25,013,000. The average of $96,730 decreased 13.37 percent from $111,665 in 2015. The median of $75,000 was down 16.67 percent from last year's $90,000.

Through the first four days of the sale, Keeneland sold 695 horses for $155,833,500, a dip of 5.37 percent from $164,679,000 for 732 horses sold during through the corresponding period in 2015. The average of $224,221 was nearly even with last year's $224,971, while the median of $125,000 was down 9.09 percent from $137,500 in 2015.

"There is polarization and selectivity in the market," Keeneland Director of Sales Operations Geoffrey Russell said. "Those (horses) with perceived quality are rewarded.

"The foal market is very good at the moment," Russell added. "But you have to have sire power and you have to have the physical. A lot of the weanling buyers are end-users. They realize there are quality horses offered here so they are taking advantage of it."

Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent, consigned Moment of Majesty, a nine-year-old mare out of the A.P. Indy mare Lady Indy. Her second dam is champion Fiji.

James B. Keogh signed the ticket for Moment of Majesty on behalf of Evelyn Benoit's Star Guitar Inc. Benoit's homebred Star Guitar, who won 24 of 30 career starts and earnings of more than $1.7 million, stands at Clear Creek Stud in Louisiana.

"She said to just buy the mare," Keogh said. "She is a huge Curlin fan. She has mares in foal to Curlin and so that was a bonus. I loved Fiji. (Moment of Majesty has) a wonderful old family. It's just one of those classy old pedigrees that has been around forever and a lot of people have done very well by. This mare has a lot of race class."

"She stood out on the page," John G. Sikura of Hill 'n' Dale said about Moment of Majesty. "She was a very good race mare and the Curlin cover really helped. It was a great sale and I hope they have much success with the mare."

Hill 'n' Dale was the session's leading consignor, selling nine horses for $2,210,000.

Three Chimneys Bloodstock, agent for leading owner Mike Repole's Repole Stables, paid $425,000 for Hip 997, RUNWAY READY, a six-year-old daughter of Mr. Greeley in foal to Malibu Moon. Eaton Sales, agent, consigned Runway Ready, who is out of the winning Forest Wildcat mare Fashion Cat and from the family of multiple Grade 1 stakes winner Peace Rules.

David Ingordo, on behalf of Mayberry Farm, purchased the day's highest-priced weanling, paying $350,000 for Hip 1286, a daughter of Curlin. Consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent, the filly is out of the graded stakes-placed Lion Heart mare Jungle Tale.

"She is one of the better-looking fillies in the whole catalog," Ingordo said. "We tried on some earlier ones and didn't get them. We were getting outbid on this kind at the (Keeneland September) yearling sale. We have a little more risk (with a weanling) but we wanted to get her here because she might bring $700,000 next year."

Hip 1094, a son of Malibu Moon, purchased for $300,000 by Alex and JoAnn Lieblong, was the session's top-priced weanling colt. Out of the Deputy Minister mare V V S Flawless, the colt is a half-brother to the Lieblong's 2014 King's Bishop (G1) winner, The Big Beast. The Lieblongs also own his yearling half-sister by The Factor. The colt was consigned by James M. Herbener Jr., agent.

Calumet Farm was the day's leading buyer, spending a total of $987,000 for 10 horses.

The November Sale continues through Sunday, November 20 with sessions starting daily at 10 a.m. (ET). For complete results please visit keeneland.com.
