Channel Marker gets revenge over Something Extra in Jaipur
Something Extra held second by a half-length over the mare Ageless (Successful Appeal), who had a neck on Power Alert (Alert). Backyard Kitten (Kitten's Joy), 3-1 favorite Mosler (War Front), Unbridled's Note (Unbridled's Song), Bellarmine (Magna Graduate), and Spring to the Sky (Langfuhr) completed the order of finish. Helwan (Bernstein) broke down around the far turn and was subsequently euthanized. Sandy'z Slew (Limehouse), Shrinking Violet (Congaree), and Summation Time (In Summation) were scratched. Second in the Bonapaw at Fair Grounds in December 2013, Channel Marker was claimed by his current connections for $62,500 at Churchill Downs on May 16 of last year. He did not debut for them until March 8 of this year, when he ran sixth in a two-turf allowance at Fair Grounds. Second by a half-length in the aforementioned Shakertown next out, he preceded this victory with a sixth in the Twin Spires Turf Sprint (G3) at Churchill Downs. His record now stands at 17-4-5-2, $361,846. Bred in Kentucky by Royal Pegasus, Channel Marker was reared by Grade 1-placed stakes winner Extended Applause (Exbourne), a half-sister to Ohio-bred stakes winners Devil Time (Devil His Due) and Matt's Bubble (Air Forbes Won).
