Joseph W. Sutton's Bradester (Lion Heart) earned his third Grade 3 victory on Sunday when taking the $154,500 Salvator Mile S. in near gate-to-wire fashion.

The Eddie Kenneally trainee broke on top, lost the lead to Fabulous Kid (Congrats) through an opening quarter in :24 2/5, then regained control and was in command all the way home. Bradester posted fractions of :47 3/5 and 1:10 4/5 before finishing eight furlongs on Monmouth Park's fast main track in 1:35 1/5.

Sent off the 6-1 fourth choice under jockey Corey Lanerie, Bradester paid $15.60 for earning his first win since another near wire job in the Ack Ack H. (G3) last September at Churchill Downs.

"I took the blinkers off this time because of how aggressive he was last race and it paid off," Kenneally said. "Corey got him to relax early and settled in nicely."

It was two lengths back to Red Vine (Candy Ride), who came running but just could not reel in the winner. Valid (Medaglia d'Oro), who captured the Monmouth Cup S. (G2) last year with Bradester in second, finished third. Race Day (Tapit), the 4-5 favorite, came in sixth.

Bradester is now 18-6-5-2, $557,732, in his career, having also picked up a win in the Mineshaft H. (G3) in February 2014 at Fair Grounds. The well-traveled five-year-old, who was second in last year's Salvator Mile and the 2013 Indiana Derby (G2), shipped to Meydan but was unable to factor in the Godolphin Mile (UAE-G2) on Dubai World Cup Day to open 2015.

Returning to be third last out at Churchill Downs against allowance/optional claiming company, Bradester is now pointing for another try at Monmouth.

"We will look to most likely run him back in the ($200,000) Monmouth Cup (on August 2) next," Kenneally said.

Bred in Kentucky by Doug Branham, Bradester sold for $13,000 as a Keeneland November weanling before brining $20,000 a year later at the Fasig-Tipton Easter Fall Yearling Sale. He made one more trip through the auction ring, selling for $195,000 at the 2012 Fasig-Tipton Florida Sale as a two-year-old.

Bradester is the first registered stakes scorer out of Grandestofall (Grand Slam), who is a half-sister to stakes victor Short Round (Pass Rush) and stakes-placed Cat Striker (Tactical Cat). His third dam is Grade 2 vixen Zealous Connection (Unreal Zeal), who would go on in the breeding shed to produce Grade 3 hero Here's Zealous (Dehere), Grade 3 runner-up There's Zealous (Broad Brush) and stakes diva She's Zealous (Cozzene).
