Keyed Entry rolls to Deputy Minister triumph Starlight Stable, Saylor and Lucarelli's KEYED ENTRY (Honour and Glory) shot to the lead soon after the start, spurted clear at the head of the stretch and cruised home an emphatic five-length winner in the $100,000 Deputy Minister H. (G3) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. Saddled by Anthony Sciametta Jr., the speedy four-year-old grabbed a length advantage while reaching the opening quarter-mile in :22 1/5, was briefly threatened by Kelly's Landing (Patton) through the half-mile in :44 2/5, and gave little chance to anyone off the pace with a strong finish under John Velazquez. The final time for the 6 1/2-furlong event on the fast main track was 1:15 3/5. The 9-5 second choice, who had not raced since his off-the-board effort in the Dwyer S. (G2) last July, was good for $5.80, $3.40 and $2.80. "He'd been on the farm with Barry (Berkelhammer, bloodstock agent and advisor)," Jack Wolf of Starlight Stable said, "and he got this horse to looking the way he did today. By the time he got back to training, he was just doing super and able to do what we saw today. I would think that as long as we don't screw it up, this horse has a future as a very good sprinter." Sir Greeley (Mr. Greeley) was prominent early, dropped back nearing the turn for home, then found his best stride late in a solid runner-up performance. The 8-5 favorite paid $2.80 and $2.40 while completing the $7 exacta ($1). Nar (Northern Afleet) overcame a poor break to grab the third spot, good for $2.80 at 18-1. The trifecta returned $45.40 ($1), while the 1-5-2-3 superfecta gave back $87.30 ($1) with High Finance (Talk Is Money) finishing fourth at 9-2. Kelly's Landing tired to cross the wire at the back of the pack. Keyed Entry proved his affinity for this oval in staying unbeaten from three local starts. The four-year-old sports an 8-4-1-1 lifetime mark, with a bankroll of $310,000. The dark bay captured the 2006 Hutcheson S. (G2) and owns placings in the Wood Memorial S. (G1) and Gotham S. (G3). Keyed Entry tried to stretch his speed in the Kentucky Derby (G1), but he faded to finish last of 20 after a rough start. The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Oakbrook Farm and fetched a bid of $145,000 at the 2004 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Yearling Sale. Produced from the Grade 3-placed Ava Knowsthecode (Cryptoclearance), he is a half-brother to stakes victress Alex's Allure (Sky Classic) as well as an unnamed yearling colt by Successful Appeal.
