Should I Save to Disk, or Open, or Netscape tells me I am downloading an Unknown File Type, what do I do? Document Number: 10059 In most cases you want to Save. When Internet Explorer says "Save to Disk" it is not neccesarily saying to a diskette, your computer's hard drive is a disk drive too (usually the C: drive). This box usually indicates that the browser has not been told to do something automatically with this type of file, which is usually a good thing. Handicapping software does not usually open datafiles automatically, so you need to save files for handicapping software in the folder (directory) specified by your program. In the case that you are downloading a software package, it is NEVER good to "Run/Open from its current Location". There are numerous problems with this, including the fact that you will not be given a chance to close programs you have running (your Web Browser for one) which you are supposed to do when installing any software. When downloading software, always save the installation executable in a folder on your hard drive like My Documents or better yet, create a folder and call it Software Installers, in case you need to install again at some later date. This also lets you manage your hard drive space, you know where the installer file is, so you can delete it when you have installed and used the software successfully.
