ALL-Ways 8.02 Standard and Professional Edition FAQ
General Problems associated with first time users:
Almost all problems during the first run of the program are due to failure to
follow all the necessary steps to prepare ALL-Ways. Skipping any steps will
lead to problems. It should take a minimum of 15 minutes to do a full install
and preparation.
If you followed all of the above steps, check the following situations
below for further information.
Q. I cannot translate an ALW file.
A. You have failed to update the races and pars for the file in question. Click on DATABASE, click on RACES AND PARS, type in the full filename, e.g. SAX0120.ALW, click on GO
Q. I cannot unzip a file I downloaded.
A. Make certain you are using the full filename. e.g. SAX0120.ZIP or SAX0120L.ZIP for BRISnet members
Q. I cannot use a Flash Results file I downloaded from BRISnet
A. Currently, Flash Results files from BRISnet cannot be used directly unless downloaded as a ZIP file. Unzip the results the same as you would a datafile.
- Alternatives include using the XRD file for only $0.25 or manually
inputting results. If a HDB member, download the Flash Results from
Main Menu B, Option 1.
Q. I get an "Invalid Property Value' error when I attempt to handicap.
A. This can be caused by two different problems.
- You might be missing the Courier New font. Retrieve from Microsoft, email or normal mail.
- You might be using a Generic Printer Driver that does not support the Courier new font, change driver.
Q. I tried upgradeing to version 8.01 but it didn't work.
A. You can only use the upgrade for v7.0. All prior versions must be upgraded by installing the full version.
Q. I receive the error, "Input Past End of File".
A. You are attempting to load the file zipped or the wrong file. Make certain to unzip and load an ALW file.
Q. I cannot see the buttons listed and displayed in the manual.
A. You are using Large Fonts in your display properties. Use the Display Applet in Control Panel to change to Small Fonts.
Q. After selecting the reports I want, I cannot view them on screen.
A. The only on-screen report available is the "On-Screen" report. All other reports must be printed.
Q. I attempt to select the Handicap Module, but I get a printer error.
A. All-Ways requires that a print driver be installed. If you do not have a printer you may install a Generic Text printer driver.
Q. What does an asterisk indicate on the printed or on-screen report?
A. This indicates a dangerous horse. Please refer to the manual for a full explanation of this situation.
