Temple City records first winner

Last updated: 7/20/14 4:05 PM

Track record-setting Grade 3 victor Temple City was represented by his first

winner Sunday when Jusgimmetenminutes got up in time Arapahoe Park's

1ST

race. Near the back of the pack early, the 9-2 chance rallied in traffic and

caught 8-5 favorite Tropic Vision by a neck, finishing 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:06

3/5 on the fast track. Miguel Fuentes Jr. was aboard for trainer Temple Rushton.

Jusgimmetenminutes was prevailing in his third try, following a second on

debut June 15 and a fifth on July 11. Bred by Oakmont Farm in Kentucky, he went

to current owner Ed Kidneigh for $1,000 as a newly-turned yearling at Keeneland

January. The dark bay colt is out of the unraced Harlan's Holiday mare

Shezaharleygirl, from the extended family of champion Beautiful Pleasure,

multiple Grade 1 star Mecke and Grade 3 scorer Fortunate Prospect, the latter

two sires.

Temple City, a beautifully-bred son of Dynaformer out of a half-sister to top

sire Malibu Moon, captured his debut going 6 1/2 furlongs at Santa Anita at the

end of his three-year-old season. Trained by Carla Gaines, the B. Wayne Hughes

homebred progressed into the Grade 2 ranks at four, and capped 2009 with a close

third in the Del Mar Handicap.

At his peak as a five-year-old in 2010, Temple City turned in a commanding,

wire-to-wire performance in the Cougar II Handicap, finishing 1 1/2 miles on Del

Mar's Polytrack in a track record time of 2:30 2/5. The dark bay also missed by

a head in two major turf events at Hollywood Park, the 1 1/8-mile American

Handicap and the 1 1/2-mile Hollywood Turf Cup, and retired with a mark of

15-4-2-4, $326,400.

Temple City was produced by the unraced Danzig mare Curriculum, a daughter of

French Group 1 heroine Macoumba. Aside from Malibu Moon, Macoumba is responsible

for the multiple Grade 3-placed Positively; stakes-placed Mutually Benefit, by

Dynaformer and thus a three-parts sister to Temple City; and Lady Nichola, the

dam of Grade 3 victor Worth Repeating.

Macoumba is out of French Group 1 vixen and dual classic-placed Maximova,

making her a half-sister to Group 1-winning sire Septieme Ciel, multiple Grade 3

scorer Maxigroom, stakes diva Balchaia and stakes winner Manureva, the dam of

Grade 1 hero Riviera. Another descendant of Maximova is current classic winner

The Grey Gatsby, victorious in the June 1 Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby).

The nine-year-old Temple City stands at Hughes' Spendthrift Farm near

Lexington, Kentucky, for $5,000, stands and nurses.
