Race Summary |
---|
GULCH APPROVAL quickly moved to the fore, made the pace along the rail, edged
clear in midstretch, then was fully extended to last over OLD DODGE (BRZ). The
latter, prompted the pace outside GULCH APPROVAL, was outmoved by that rival in
the stretch, then responded to pressure and was gaining at the finish. DRUM
MAJOR hit the rail and was steadied from inside L'OISEAU D'ARGENT entering the
first turn, saved ground into the stretch, then rallied to be up for the show.
SAINT STEPHEN tracked the pace into the stretch, then came between horses and
finished willingly to just miss the show. OLD FORESTER unhurried early, raced
four wide on the far turn and closed with a belated rally. L'OISEAU D'ARGENT was
steadied while rank racing into the first turn, continued to race rank down the
backstretch, chased the pace along the inside into the stretch and weakened.
ECCLESIASTIC stalked the pace three wide, came out a bit nearing the eighth pole
and gave way. HOST (CHI) rated off the pace, raced three wide on the far turn,
then was attempting to split horses when checked from tight quarters nearing the
eighth pole and failed to recover. NETWORK trailed after hitting the gate at the
start. There was a stewards inquiry and the rider of HOST lodged an objection
against the rider of OLD FORRESTER for alleged interference in the stretch. The
claim of foul was not allowed.
