Race Summary |
---|
RECORD brushed the side of the gate at the start, settled just in behind the
dueling leaders three or four wide, was lightly steadied when alertly maneuvered
around PROTAGONUS when that one broke down nearing the five-sixteenths pole,
rallied between horses three wide nearing the final furlong and was fully
extended to best SPOTSGONE in the late going. SPOTSGONE bobbled slightly at the
break, went up soon after to vie for the lead between horses, held a slight edge
for a few strides before going a quarter, allowed the advantage to PROTAGONUS
from the inside, inherited the lead from that one when he broke down nearing the
five-sixteenths pole, was engaged soon after by DAWN OF WAR from the outside and
RECORD from the inside, then was outfinished by the latter in a game try. MISTER
TRIESTER was bumped by PROTAGONUS when breaking a bit slow, then was squeezed
back when R LOYAL MAN came out, settled four wide, inched up on the turn, came
out six wide for the drive, loomed prominently in the final furlong but failed
to sustain the needed momentum. DAWN OF WAR, bumped at the start by NOONMARK and
forced out, was never far back while tracking the pace four or five wide, gained
even terms for the lead in the upper stretch but weakened in the final
sixteenth. R LOYAL MAN came out bothering MISTER TRIESTER at the start, raced
within easy striking distance inside, was steadied nearing the five-sixteenths
pole when PROTAGONUS broke down to his outside, remained a threat into the final
furlong and flattened out. NOONMARK drifted out at the start bumping DAWN OF
WAR, went up to attend the pace between horses four or five wide, held on well
for five furlongs and gradually weakened. PROTAGONUS came in at the start
bumping MISTER TRIESTER, went up soon after to put a head in front while dueling
four wide between foes, was headed for a stride or two early by SPOTSGONE,
regained a slight edge, continued in a pace battle around the but broke down in
his right-front nearing the five-sixteenths pole.
