Race Summary

BARBARO bobbled and bumped with CHARMING IMAGE at the start, moved up to prompt the pace outside SHARP HUMOR, made a run to reach near even terms for command midway of the far turn, then wore that rival down in a long drive to be up late. SHARP HUMOR quickly moved to fore, made the pace along the rail into the far turn, responded when challenged by BARBARO and continued on gamely while unable to resist that rival off late. SUNRIVER steadied when caught in tight entering the first turn, eased out and advanced four wide around the far turn to loom a threat but had no late response. SAM'S ACE moved up quickly from the outside to gain position, stalked the pace three wide, made a run to reach the leaders on the far turn, then gave way in the drive. HESANOLDSALT hustled away from the gate, chased the pace off the rail into the stretch, then tired. HIGH BLUES reserved after being steadied from tight quarters at the start, bumped with REHOBOTH soon after entering the first turn and failed to menace. FLASHY BULL well placed in behind the leaders, steadied to avoid running up on those rivals leaving the first turn, remained in contention three wide into the far turn, then faltered. CHARMING IMAGE steadied when he bumped with BARBARO at the start, raced four wide on the far turn and was never a factor. SAINT AUGUSTUS was caught in tight along the rail soon after entering the first turn, raced in striking position along the inside into the far turn, then had nothing left. DOC CHENEY reserved off the pace after being steadied in tight quarters entering the first turn and again on the first turn, faded in the drive. REHOBOTH bumped with HIGH BLUES on the first turn and was outrun.
