Race Summary

LEMONS FOREVER, taken in hand soon after the start, worked her way in four wide, was unhurried for five furlongs, came to the far outside to circle her field on the far turn in steady fashion, remained eight wide when straightened into the stretch, then, after being sharply roused on the right side, reached the front a sixteenth out and responded gamely to strong left-handed urging to edge clear late. ERMINE, steadied lightly behind WONDER LADY ANNE nearing the first turn and again soon after while working her way inward, was unhurried to the far turn while between foes four or five wide, responded to hand urging when advancing into the stretch, again split horses nearing the sixteenth pole three wide, was briefly on even terms with the winner but couldn't match strides at the end as second best. BUSHFIRE, never far back while tracking the leaders four wide early, moved a bit wider on the backstretch while edging closer, made a bold run five wide into the stretch, gained even terms for the lead outside of RED CHERRIES SPIN, bumped with that one at the three-sixteenths pole, then lugged in and again soundly bumped that foe a sixteenth out when weakening. WAIT A WHILE, well positioned from early on while rated in behind the leaders three wide, raced between foes around the far turn, angled inside to find room entering the upper stretch, loomed menacingly when straightened for the drive, then failed to sustain her momentum. WONDER LADY ANNE L hopped while breaking slowly, settled off the inside, raced five or six wide on the backstretch, commenced a solid run approaching the final quarter while continuing six wide, was fanned a bit wider into the lane and lacked a further response. RED CHERRIES SPIN gained a forward position early under light restraint, moved four wide to gain a slight edge just before going six furlongs, battled forwardly into the final furlong, weakened grudgingly, then was bumped by BUSHFIRE and forced to steady leaving the sixteenth pole. LAST ROMANCE, outrun into the backstretch, was steadied inside at the three-eighths pole, angled between foes into the lane and improved position. TOP NOTCH LADY, outrun for a half, made a run from between horses approaching the stretch to reach contention but was empty when straightened for the drive. QUIET KIM, sluggish to begin, settled near the inside, reached a striking position midway on the first turn, continued to save ground while advancing approaching the end of the backstretch, was asked at the half-mile ground, steadied sharply a sixteenth later, quickly was back on stride, raced within striking distance to the stretch but had little left after angling out five wide. ITTY BITTY PRETTY settled between foes three or four wide during the early going but failed to reach contention. BALANCE raced in a striking position for six furlongs while between horses, edged near the inside soon after and was finished a quarter-mile out. MISS NORMAN moved to the fore along the inside at once, opened a clear advantage, showed speed until nearing the end of the backstretch and faded. DIPLOMAT LADY chased front-running MISS NORMAN from the outset, took over from that one between calls leaving the backstretch, lost the advantage to RED CHERRIES SPIN just before going six furlongs and tired gradually. EX CAELIS sat down in the gate prior to the start. During the running, EX CAELIS gave way early and was eased late when hopelessly beaten. FOLLOWING A STEWARDS' INQUIRY AND FOUL CLAIM LODGED BY THE TRAINER OF RED CHERRIES SPIN, BUSHFIRE WAS DISQUALIFIED FROM THIRD AND PLACED SIXTH FOR INTERFERENCE LEAVING THE SIXTEENTH POLE.
