Race Summary |
---|
BERNARDINI was patiently rated three to four wide between rivals into the
backstretch, took a firm hold when BROTHER DEREK made his move midway down the
backstretch, angled in leaving the far turn, swung back out four wide
approaching the quarter pole, surged to command in upper stretch, lugged in
briefly nearing the eighth pole, responding to strong left handed urging, opened
a clear advantage in midstretch and drew off through the final sixteenth while
under a vigorous hand ride in the final seventy yards. SWEETNORTHERNSAINT
prompted the pace two to three wide, moved to near even terms for the lead
leaving the far turn, opened a clear lead leaving the quarter pole, shied inward
once headed at the three sixteenths pole, drifted out in mid stretch and was
clearly best of the rest. HEMINGWAY'S KEY was outrun early, saved ground to the
quarter pole, angled out in upper stretch, drifted out briefly near the furlong
marker then finished willingly once straightened to gain a share. BROTHER DEREK
broke a step slow then steadied soon after, checked off the heels of BARBARO
under the wire the first time, altered course to the four path, rushed up
entering the backstretch, chased the leaders while continuing four wide into the
far turn then faded from the quarter pole. GREELEY'S LEGACY was steadied early,
raced wide and failed to menace. PLATINUM COUPLE flashed only brief speed and
dropped back after six furlongs. LIKE NOW was away alertly, sprinted clear
nearing the first turn, set a pressured pace towards the inside leaving the
backstretch, dueled around the final turn, was headed leaving the
five-sixteenths marker then tired in upper stretch. DIABOLICAL was angled to the
rail nearing the first turn, chased the leaders for six furlongs then faltered.
BARBARO broke through the gate pre race then was pulled up when breaking down in
his right hind when nearing the wire the first time.
