Conditions: 1 MILE STAKES. Texas Mile S. (Grade III). (PLUS UP TO $13,500 Open ATB) FOR THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. No nomination fee. $2,250 to pass the entry box and an additional $2,250 to start with $300,000 guaranteed of which $165,000 to the owner of the winner, $55,000 to second, $30,250 to third, $16,500 to fourth, $8,250 to fifth and $5,000 for placing sixth through tenth. If less than 10 horses start, the purse money not distributed will revert to the winning owner. Weights: Three Year Olds, 114 lbs. Older, 123 lbs. Non-winners of $90,000 at a mile or over in 2006 allowed 3 lbs.; $60,000 since November 1, 2005, 5 lbs.; $30,000 in 2005-2006, 7 lbs. Maiden and claiming races not considered in weight allowances. Starters to be named through the entry box by the usual time of closing. High weights preferred (on the scale). Total earnings in 2005-2006 will be used in determining the order of preference of horses assigned equal weights. The field will be limited to twelve starters. Horses not drawing a starting position in the gate will receive a refund of the entry fee. A suitable award will be presented to the winning owner. PREACHINATTHEBAR was caught five wide into the first turn then dropped to four
wide, moved up outside on the backstretch, vied four wide while between rivals
on the far turn, battled determinedly in a prolonged drive and prevailed under
left hand urging. STOCKHOLDER broke a bit awkwardly, was caught four wide into
the first turn then dropped to three wide, was rated under a tight hold while
just off heels, waited while four wide on the far turn, moved to five wide near
the quarter-pole, rallied in upper stretch, came in a bit inside the furlong
marker and closed well while unable to reach the winner. TEXCESS raced four then
three wide on the first turn, was rated just off the pace in the tightly bunched
field, was urged along while three to four wide on the far turn, steadied while
blocked passing the quarter-pole, found room in upper stretch, was in tight
inside the furlong marker and finished well. NAKAYAMA KUN settled on the inside,
advanced on the backstretch, slipped through inside of PLAY THE CHIME passing
the three-eighths pole, made a rail bid passing the quarter-pole, battled gamely
in the stretch but was outfinished. HALOS SAILING SAIN was caught six wide into
the first turn then dropped to five wide, moved up on the outside down the
backstretch, vied five wide on the far turn, battled into the final furlong then
weakened in a good effort. DOMINGUIN (PER) contested the pace on the outside
then between rivals, vied off the rail on the far turn and tired. YES HE'S A
PISTOL was hustled from the start, raced four into the first turn then dropped
to three wide, pressed the pace on the outside then between rivals, vied three
wide while between rivals on the far turn, dropped back near the quarter-pole
and gave way. CHARMING SOCIALITE broke inward and bumped with a rival, lagged
near the back of the field, was urged along while four then three wide on the
final turn and was no factor. HIGH STRIKE ZONE steadied near the seven-eighths
pole, was very hard held while just off heels, steadied repeatedly while still
off heels on the backstretch, bumped hard with PLAY THE CHIME nearing the
five-sixteenths pole and came up empty. MR. TRIESTE was bumped at the start,
raced near the back of the field, was urged along while five then four wide on
the far turn and failed to threaten. PLAY THE CHIME brushed with a rival after
the start then was hustled into the first turn, contested the pace on the
inside, came up empty on the far turn, bumped with HIGH STRIKE ZONE while
retreating near the five-sixteenths pole and stopped.
