Sugar Shake settles in Shuvee

Santa Maria H. (G1) winner SUGAR SHAKE (Awesome Again) scratched out of the Louisville Breeders' Cup S. (G2) two weeks ago and was entered in Friday's Allaire DuPont Breeders' Cup Distaff S. (G2), but the Bobby Frankel-trained filly will instead reappear in Saturday's $150,000 Shuvee H. (G2) at Belmont Park. Since the four-year-old isn't Breeders' Cup eligible, she would have only been running for part of the purse in the other two events.

Sugar Shake broke her maiden and won an allowance/optional claiming event at Belmont last year. She concluded her three-year-old season with an allowance victory at Churchill Downs and opened her 2007 campaign with a front-running victory in the El Encino S. (G2). In the Santa Maria last out, Sugar Shake led wire to wire for a 1 3/4-length score over Ermine (Exchange Rate), who captured the Apple Blossom H. (G1) next out. Eibar Coa will pick up the mount aboard the probable favorite, and "Sugar" will attempt to "Shake" free from five rivals in the one-mile Shuvee.

Test S. (G1) heroine SWAP FLIPAROO (Exchange Rate) posted a victory in the one-mile, one-turn Sabin H. (G3) earlier this year at Gulfstream Park, and she's finished second in five of nine starts at Belmont Park. Cross-entered to the DuPont, the four-year-old gray will likely start in the Shuvee, according to trainer Allen Jerkens. The Hall of Fame conditioner will also send out the uncoupled TEAMMATE (A.P. Indy), a Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1 runner-up last season who exits a victory over allowance/optional claiming rivals at Belmont in her 2007 debut.

Swap Fliparoo will break from the rail with Raul Rojas and a 116-pound weight assignment. Next comes Grade 2 winner RAHYS' APPEAL (Rahy), Norberto Arroyo Jr., 116; Sugar Shake, 118; stakes queen LAST ROMANCE (Wild Rush), Javier Castellano, 114; Teammate, Cornelio Velasquez, 116; and Grade 3 victress SILMARIL (Diamond), Kent Desormeaux, 115.
