Gulfstream Park reports increase in average daily on-track handle Gulfstream Park, which concluded its 87-day meet on Sunday, reported double-digit gains in average daily on-track handle. Wagering on Gulfstream races rose 18 percent while on-track handle was up 13 percent compared to 2005. Intertrack (ITW) wagering in Florida showed a 2 percent increase in average daily wagering on Gulfstream races and a 4 percent increase in handle on imported signals. "Given the challenges that we faced in opening our meet in a partially completed building, we're excited and proud of the numbers that were generated," said Scott Savin, Gulfstream Park president and general manager. "The quality of racing was outstanding, and the consistency of the main track and turf course surfaces enabled us to maintain strong field sizes throughout the meet." John Velazquez booted home 86 winners to capture his second straight leading jockey title. Todd Pletcher saddled 60 winners to earn his third consecutive leading trainer crown.
