As most novices, I soon realized that I was losing far more money than I was winning at the racetrack. It also dawned on me that each day new people were coming to the track and also putting their two dollar bets into vast pools of money. I thought of how many terrible golfers flooded courses daily and kept coming back with no hope of ever improving their game. The golf courses still took their money and so did friends that took part in any friendly side bets. This motivated me to learn as much about horseracing as humanly possible, so that I was the one taking in all of the uninformed horseplayers money. One of the first major steps was purchasing the Track Stats and Maiden Stats books from BRIS. Finding and using trainer stats and sire information that not all knew about helped me to turn my losses into profits. Not long after that, BRIS started publishing Past Performances online. Their pace figures were another great tool that helped me further in making money. Then BRIS began offering the Ultimate Past Performances Plus Summary. This became a tremendous help in condensing the time used to look up the never ending fields of maiden races that fill a daily card. The Ultimate PP's included all the information that took much longer to find using the previously mentioned books. With all of this knowledge at my finger tips, I soon set out to accomplish a goal I set for myself. When I turned into a professional handicapper/gambler in 1998, I wanted to be able to say that I handicapped and cashed the only ticket in a pari-mutuel pool at a major track. That day came on November 5, 1999. I played a $360 Pick-6 ticket at Bay Meadows using only the Ultimate PP's with Track Bias and Summary. In five of the races, each horse that won was rated 1st or 2nd in either the Race Summary column or the Prime Power. The other winner was ranked 3rd in both. What is even more amazing is that my original $64 ticket would have still taken the whole pool! "As recently as February 11, 2001, lightning struck again. I've had great success following Santa Anita and using BRIS PPs to cash in more than a few Pick 6's and Place Pick 9's. I made a relatively moderate play of $64 in the Place Pick 9 that day after again only using the BRIS Ultimate PP's with Summary. To my surprise, I held the only ticket worth $34,695.30! In six of the races, the 1st or 2nd ranked horses in the Race Summary column or the Prime Power hit. In two other races it was the 3rd ranked horse that won. The only race that I deemed "unhandicappable" did a lower ranked horse win. I fortunately used four horses in this leg that must have helped in making it the only ticket in the country. I'm a definite believer in the information I receive from BRIS.
