NEW BRIS PEDIGREE RATINGS

At Brisnet.com it is our goal to make life easier for our handicapping clientele. It is often laborous and time-consuming to analyze statistical data concerning a runner's pedigree and make an accurate decision. Now comes the new BRIS Pedigree Ratings, which incorporate all the value-added data on the sire, damsire and dam into individual ratings for four different circumstances.

As with all BRIS ratings, the higher the number the better. Now at a glance, you can see what type of surface or distance the horse is bred best for. It doesn't get any easier than this!

Coniser Fille Filly Fifi, a winner in week one of the $25,000 Brisnet.com Online Challenge II. This filly hit the turf for the first time at Canterbury Park in mid-July with a BRIS Turf Pedigree Rating of 106, significantly higher than her dirt Pedigree Ratings (93 Fast, 86 Wet). This is the classic example of a horse bred to move up on the grass. Fille Filly Fifi responded to the new surface, winning her turf debut at 17-1.

She entered this recent stakes at Turf Paradise (on November 11) with a near perfect grass record, being a nose away from being undefeated in four attempts. Fille Filly Fifi had run her two most recent efforts on the dirt, earning much lower BRIS Speed Ratings than in her prior turf attempts. However, her prior grass record and her BRIS Turf Pedigree Rating indicated that she would relish the switch back to the lawn. Again, Fille Filly Fifi responded with a victory, this time paying $6.00 to win.

The new BRIS Pedigree Ratings make it easy to see at a glance what surface and distance the horse is bred to excel at. What follows are some common questions regarding our new ratings:

WHAT DO THE BRIS PEDIGREE RATINGS MEASURE?
The Fast (Dirt) Pedigree rating measures the quality and suitability of the horse's breeding for races run on the dirt. The Wet Pedigree rating measures the quality and suitability of the horse's breeding for races run over a wet dirt surface. The Distance Pedigree rating measures the overall quality and suitability of the horse's breeding for races run at today's distance. The Turf Pedigree rating measures the quality and suitability of the horse's breeding for races run on the turf.

HOW SHOULD I INTERPRET THE BRIS PEDIGREE RATINGS?
While the higher Pedigree Ratings are generally preferred, the key is not to simply look for the highest rated horse. Instead, value oriented handicappers are encouraged to compare the ratings of a horse at today's distance or surface to his/her other pedigree ratings. Ask yourself if the relationship between the pedigree ratings of a horse suggest he/she will improve or decline at today's distance/surface.

For example, a horse with a Turf Pedigree Rating substantially higher than his/her Fast dirt Pedigree Rating represents an excellent candidate to improve when switching from dirt to turf for the first time. Conversely, a horse whose Turf Pedigree Rating is substantially lower than his/her Fast dirt Pedigree Rating is a candidate to fail when switching from dirt to turf.

In dirt races, look for horses whose Distance (DIST) Pedigree Rating is higher than his/her overall FAST dirt Pedigree Rating. These horses, based on the performances of other horses with similar breeding, are well suited to today's distance and often show substantial improvement when today's distance is considerably shorter or longer than his/her other races.

In races run on a wet track, look for horses whose WET Pedigree Rating is higher than their FAST dirt Pedigree Rating. These horses, based on the performances of other horses with similar breeding, are well suited to a wet track and often improve dramatically when running on a wet track.

HOW ARE THE BRIS PEDIGREE RATINGS CALCULATED?
Based on an analysis of hundreds of thousands of starts in North American, each start of all offspring from the Sire, Dam, and Damsire are evaluated and measured for their individual racing aptitudes and preferences. Unlike other pedigree ratings which merely reflect win percentages or earnings, the BRIS Pedigree Ratings utilize a vast array of performance rating tools (Speed ratings, Class ratings, Power Ratings, etc.) to accurately measure the actual improvement or decline each offspring displayed at different distances and surfaces. The net result of this exhaustive compilation is the most accurate, comprehensive and predictive pedigree ratings available for handicappers.

WHAT DO THE '?' AND '*' SYMBOLS MEAN?
When the BRIS Pedigree Ratings are largely based on small sample sizes, a '?' or '*' symbol is given. Those rated with an '*' have the smallest sample size.

WHEN SHOULD I USE THE BRIS PEDIGREE RATINGS?
The BRIS Pedigree Ratings are most valuable when horses are being asked to attempt something they have never done before (e.g., Making their first career start, Trying a new distance, Switching to turf, Running on an off track for the first time, etc.). WHERE CAN I FIND THE BRIS PEDIGREE RATINGS ? Available EXCLUSIVELY in BRIS PDF Past Performances (Premium Plus PP's, Ultimate PP's, and Quick Play PP's), the ratings can be found next to the horse's career record for Fast, Wet, Distance, and Turf.

On Saturday, November 11th Illiquidity was entered in the Grade 3 Cardinal Handicap at Churchill Downs. Slightly stepping up in class, bettors dismissed Illiquidity at odds of 9-1 at post time. The BRIS Ratings and Trainer Stats suggested she should be able to hold her own against this contentious field. Premium PP's revealed that Illiquidity was second in Prime Power. The trainer stats showed the trainer enjoyed unusually high win percentages in Turf races, Graded Stakes races and with winners of their last race. Illiquidity's solid BRIS turf rating offered more evidence that she had the ability to win the race. True to form, Illiquidity scored her first graded stakes victory winning by a half length and paying a generous $20.20 to win.

Testimonial for Breeders' Cup Pick 6 winner

Brisnet member Richard Luskin snares share of the Breeders' Cup $5 million Pick 6 with a $72 ticket. For his $72 investment he received $45,772 in return. A long time member of BRIS, Mr. Luskin recently started using Brisnet Ultimate PP's at the start of the Oak Tree meet.

"I really like the race summary. The rankings help me focus on the contenders. The stats on pedigrees and trainers are absolutely essential. Ultimates offer more workouts than anyone else. The convenience of downloading to your house is great and so is the price!

"Since I have been using Ultimates I have been consistently cashing more tickets."

I guess so! Congratulations on your big score on Breeders' Cup Day!
