MISSION POSSIBLE - WHIP THE CUP!

Saturday, November 6, eight Breeders' Cup champions will be crowned, \$13 million dollars in prize money will be awarded and one lucky handicapper might walk away with \$5 million dollars. Racing's premiere website, BRISnet.com, is your key to cashing in on Cup day. The undisputed leader in handicapping and pedigree information is prepared to show how you to conquer the Breeders' Cup Ultra Pick-6. And let's not forget, there's also a \$1 million Pick-6 at Gulfstream the day before and the day after the Cup!

Foreign Class Ratings
Each Breeders' Cup day handicappers are confronted with the difficult task of how to evaluate European turf horses against their US counterparts. Longtime subscribers of BRIS know the only way to beat these tough races are with Foreign Class Ratings. For the uninitiated, Foreign Class Ratings have been the most accurate determinant of successful turf runners from Europe since 1994. Every turf winner and runner-up from Europe since 1994 has been ranked in the top three or within two points of the top horse based on BRIS Current Class and Average Competitive Level (ACL), two valuables found on the Ultimate PP Race Summary, the Pacegraph, and SuperStats.

With our coverage of European racing dating back to 1990, every foreign horse in the cup is carefully analyzed and assigned a ranking to pinpoint the best horses. Foreign Class Ratings can be found in all of our products that contain BRIS Class Ratings. Translate European racing performances into winning mutuel tickets with Foreign Class Ratings.

Check out the success with Foreign Class Ratings since 1994:

'98 No successful imports.

'97 Mile winner Spinning World (\$6.20) was rated 1st on both Current Class and Average Competitive Level.

'97 Turf runner-up Borgia was ranked 2nd on both Current Class and Average Class behind the American representative and winner Chief Bearhart.

'96 Turf winner Pilsudski (\$29.40 and runner-up Singspiel (exacta \$61.10) ranked 4th and 2nd respectively on BRIS Average Class.

'96 Mile runner-up Spinning World was ranked 2nd on Current Class.

'95 Mile winner Ridgewood Pearl (\$7.10) ranked 1st on Current Class and ACL.

'95 Turf runner-up by a neck, Freedom Cry ranked 1st on Current Class and ACL.

'94 Mile winner Barathea (\$22.80) ranked 3rd on Current Class.

'94 Turf winner Tikkanen (\$35.20) ranked 3rd on Current Class and 1st on ACL!

However, take note the only 2 times the Breeders' Cup has been held at Gulfstream Park, no foreign owned horse has won any of the turf races! Demand that an import has high Foreign Class Ratings.

WEEK 4 CONTEST RECAP & ANALYSIS

PHOTO FINISH
by Richard Nilsen

It was a great finish to a great contest. The winner, Mark Weatherton, took the Challenge Finale at Turf Paradise and that tied him with Michael Berry for 15 winners. Mark had the \$75 high mutual which won him the tiebreaker.

The next time you lose a photo at the racetrack, think of Michael Banks, the fifth place finish. He tied for fourth place and a trip to Vegas. However, him and the fourth finisher, Bradley Uffelman, both had the same high win mutual so it went down to the next highest payoff. Uffelman's next high payoff was a \$22 winner while Banks' was a \$21 horse, so the difference of one dollar sent Uffelman to Vegas!

Paul Capozzi finished third in the contest and he joins Weatherton, Berry and Uffelman as the BRIS contingent to Vegas to compete for \$200,000 in prizes. All four contestants were using BRIS Past Performances in their handicapping, and one of the four, also utilized the Scratch Sheet and Wizard Analysis.

We know many of you are curious where you stand in the contest, and hopefully this will help. Only 20-percent of all contestants had 7 or more winners over the course of four weeks. Those with 5 or more winners accounted for 44-percent of the aggregate. The majority had less than 5 winners. If you had 7 or more winners, then you beat out 80-percent of some of the best handicappers from all over the country.

Race 3 at Philadelphia Park
This looked like a three horse race to me, with BOLD SURGE, ONE CHOICE, and TOP GUNNER competing for the top spot. The victory went to One Choice, who had showed improved form in his recent starts, running 82 and 83 BRIS Speed Ratings. Jockey Simpson wins at a 26-percent clip when riding for top trainer Robert Seeger, and this horse sported a fine record at the distance and the track. He paid \$8.40 for the win.

Race 4 at Suffolk Downs
According to the Track Bias stats at 6 furlongs the bias had changed over the previous week, with outside posts (8 and beyond) faring well. This was contrary to the meet as a whole, so handicappers had to reconsider horses on the outside. Sure enough, RIX MISS TRIX broke from the 12 hole in here and took her second consecutive win. In her first start at Suffolk Downs, she had run huge BRIS Pace Ratings of 97 and 103 at the E1 (first call) and E2 (second call), respectively. An effort similar to that would make her tough to beat. Unfortunately, my top pick was RAISEM SLICK who was well clear of the third horse as second best.

Race 4 at Keeneland
I felt this was basically a two-horse race between EXCLUSIVE BAND and ICAN'THEARYOU, and I chose the latter to win. She finished a dismal fourth as the Dale Romans trainee won as the 8-5 public choice. The Saratoga shipper was tops on BRIS Class and Speed and ran like it. Exclusive Band had no excuse.

Race 6 at Delaware Park
Finally, I got my first winner of the day with SIR ELI, trained by arguably the best turf conditioner in the country, Michael Dickinson. Jockey Castanon was in the irons, and the Ultimate PP's showed that he is in-the-money 73-percent of the time when riding for Dickinson. That is a powerful stat! I didn't care for the favorite DESERT MYTHOLOGY, whose works were unimpressive and his trainer was only 20-percent in-the-money with layoff horses.

Race 7 at Belmont Park
BOMBS AWAY! I didn't expect the highest price horse of the four weeks to come from a stakes race at Belmont, but it did when SILENTLEA closed for the win at 53.75-1. A maiden winner in her last start, Silentlea was stepping up in class and not easy to like. What she did have going for her was trainer James Jerkens, the son of Hall of Famer Alan Jerkens. James has obviously learned a lot from his father, as he has won 20-percent of his starts in 1999. Also, jockey Robbie Davis was aboard. He wins 40-percent and hits the board 90-percent of the time when riding for Jerkens! He also wins 20-percent of the time when riding E (Early) type runners.

Race 8 at Laurel Park
Well, what's another second place finish? HARDY'S HALO looked like a good play to me, sporting a strong turf record and an excellent placing in his only start at Laurel. I thought PRIVATE SLIP, the speed, would come back to the field just as he did in his last start, a third place finish behind Hardy's Halo at Delaware. However, Private Slip loves Laurel's turf course and this time the gelding led from start to finish. He paid \$10.80 for the front-running score.

Race 7 at Hawthorne
I loved SPARK SETTER, who also happened to be the Wizard's top choice at 10-1 morning line. "Spark Setter returns from a layoff for very strong trainer Granitz. Has tired in last 2 starts but on closer inspection he had excuses both times. Cooked in a fast pace last out. Hurt by slow start 2 back. Sharp and consistent from prior outings." He ran a great race to close for second at the huge odds of 20-1.

Race 9 at Keeneland
My second winner of the day came here at home in Lexington when CONSERVE ran like he was supposed to at 8-5. Trainer Frankie Brothers wins a mind-boggling 32-percent of the time with horses returning from 90+ day layoffs, as indicated by the Ultimate PP's. A return to his past form would put Conserve in the Winner's Circle. He made a devastating move on the turn to win this event easily, despite what the charts say.

Race 10 at Woodbine
If you were following the action on our live SuperTote oddsboard, then you probably knew you were in trouble without MR. SPIKE. The first time starter took all the money, went off just under 2-1, and ran like a good one. Ridden by top jock Kabel, he paid \$5.90 to win.

Race 9 at Turf Paradise
G MALLEAH was a big overlay at 5.60-1. The Del Mar shipper had previously won 15 races from only 27 attempts at Turf Paradise, so a win here was no surprise. He sported two sensational workouts here and was switching to jockey Ortiz, who wins at a 31-percent clip riding for trainer Frank Covello. The winner by 5 lengths, G Malleah paid \$13.20.

Thank You
Brisnet.com would like to thank you each and every one of the contestants who participated in this innovative contest -- the first of its kind, and the only qualifying DRF/NTRA National contest on the Internet! Here's what just a few of your fellow handicappers had to say about the Challenge:

"Even though I'm stinking the place up, I was wondering if you planned on any more contests. I hope you do, as they are great fun."
                                                                                                                S. Smith

"I would first like to say how much I appreciate the opportunity Brisnet has given all of us handicappers to qualify for Las Vegas. The idea for the contest is excellent.... Thanks for the opportunity for us to test our theories."
                                                                                                                Anonymous

"I appreciate being able to participate in your handicapping contest. I have used your past performance reports and scratch sheets and appreciate that you have combined the races on one contest card. I also like the way that the race results and standings are formatted at your web site. The contest allows me to handicap races at tracks that I don't normally handicap. I like that exposure to these other venues above and beyond the ones that I had normally bet.... Thanks for the efforts you have made in making this contest so enjoyable!"                                                                                                                   D. Dudon

"I really enjoyed the contest....It was very interesting to notice that different types of races need such different types of methodology.... In my opinion, the Ultimate PP's with racing summary are invaluable. Thanks again!"                                                                                                                   K. Bell

"Great game, nice job. I think you have something here that has a lot of potential."
                                                                                                                  A. Levo

PAYOFF OF THE MONTH!

"Thanks to Multicaps I scored \$10,000 in the Turfway Handicapping contest on October 2nd and am now entered to compete in the National Handicapping Contest in Las Vegas in January. The program uncovered a \$40.20 winner and put me in the running for the lead. The way the program selects pacelines and ranks factors is amazing. Not only did Multicaps help me that day but every day I go to the track, it consistently reveals potential longshot payoffs."                                                                                                                                             A. BREEDERS' CUP WORKOUTS

Toby Callet, the Florida Handicapper, provides Handicappers' Edge readers with observations and commentary regarding all Breeders' Cup contenders who work out at Gulfstream Park prior to the main event on November 6.

Callet, who hand times all races and workouts, has been a leading authority on the South Florida racing scene for more than 20 years, and he was the one who discovered the errors with the Gulfstream times that were being recorded inaccurately last meet. His insightful commentary and selections make the Florida Handicapper Sheet the best source for winners at the Florida tracks.

Among the information that Callet offers the Handicappers' Edge readers is detailed analysis of a horse's current form and probable chances in the Breeders' Cup. Here's a sample of what Toby offers each day:

BREEDERS' CUP WORKOUT ANALYSIS
by Toby Callet

WORK OF THE DAY (October 27)
GENERAL CHALLENGE (General Meeting) (5f, :57 3/5h) -- The Bob Baffert trainee is notorious for bearing out on turns and washing out during his morning gallops. However, this wasn't the case on Wednesday morning.

In all the years that I have watched horses work at Gulfstream Park, I've never seen a horse take turns as well, and work as fast in such an easy fashion.

When the work began, General Challenge was under kind rating by exercise rider Peter Hutton. The chestnut sophomore was moving quite easily while rattling off splits of :12, :23 and :35, and when he turned into the stretch, Hutton just gave him two slaps of the rein to get his attention. General Challenge responded in a huge way, getting the final quarter in a mind-boggling :22 3/5 while in hand. He galloped out tremendously, completing six furlongs in 1:10.

This was a serious work by a talented and composed horse. General Challenge has convinced me that he's ready to rumble in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1).

OTHER WORKS
AFFIRMED SUCCESS (Affirmed) (4f, :46h) -- The five-year-old is notorious for working very quickly, and he solidified his reputation this morning.

After reaching the top of the stretch in :23 3/5, the Richard Schosberg trainee was scrubbed pretty well and responded in decent fashion, completing the final quarter in :22 2/5. He appeared to be in good condition.

MOSSFLOWER (Affirmed) (5f, 1:11 2/5h) -- Even though the time was good, I wasn't happy with the way it was accomplished. Mossflower appeared well within herself for the early portions of the work (:12, :23 3/5 and :35), but when she turned for home, the exercise rider asked for her best, and Mossflower didn't respond that well. She looked OK, but she didn't move as well as I would've expected. In the overall swing of things, this left us very disappointed.

MIDDLESEX DRIVE (Pine Bluff) (4f, :47 1/5b) -- Had General Challenge not worked this morning, Middlesex Drive would have garnered the work of the day. The Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) contender has been visually impressive in his morning gallops prior to his work and has indicated that he came out of the Kelso H. (G2) score in terrific fashion. This work only enhanced that feeling.

The Phillip Hauswald trainee broke off beautifully from the four-furlong pole while in hand and appeared to be striding out nicely while not going too fast (:12 2/5 and :24 2/5). Turning into the stretch, the exercise rider never asked for much, and the four-year-old colt completed the stretch drive all on his own. He was reaching for the wire extremely well and completed his final quarter in :23 -- lots to like here.

VISION AND VERSE (Storm Cat) (4f, :50 2/5b) -- Nothing more than a nice and easy maintenance work for this Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) starter. Vision and Verse worked in company with Danzig's Edge (Danzig), and the tandem broke off from the half-mile pole together, alternating leads for most of the work.

Inside the furlong marker, Vision and Verse appeared to be getting the best of his workmate while under a bit of urging, and the Bill Mott trainee was much the best at the wire. No knocks on this end of the clockers stand.

WIZARD'S MAGIC!

Looking for help for the Breeders' Cup? Look no further than the Wizard on November 6th. Did the Wizard do a good job in last year's Breeders' Cup? No, he did an awesome job, nailing four big Pick-3 wagers and just missing a tremendous Pick-6 bet! By providing Da Hoss in his Pick-3 wagers, the Wizard hit three consecutive payoffs: \$294.00, \$602.00, and \$510.40. Then, had Swain had kept a straight course and held on to win, his \$1,007.40 Pick-5 consolation would have been a huge Pick-6 bonzana! How's that for a \$15.00 value? Get the WIZARD'S BREEDERS' CUP SELECTIONS & DETAILED ANALYSIS beginning Thursday, Nov. 4 at brisnet.com.
