Beat the Breeders' Cup!

Get all the answers for the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championship at Belmont Park, October 27.

It's been 6 years since Belmont hosted the Breeders' Cup in 1995. Much has changed in that time: the Breeders' Cup purses have grown to $13 million dollars, the Filly & Mare Turf race was added and of course the new name. One thing has remained constant, the Breeders' Cup is still racing's greatest day of wagering. No other day of racing offers so much value. Bettors willing to wade through the full fields and stiff competition are rewarded with high payoffs and the chance of winning a $5 million guaranteed Pick 6.

The trick is to negotiate the many variables each Cup race introduces. Handicappers need to know which juveniles are ready to stretch out, what 3 years olds are ready to face their older counterparts and who are the top horses abroad. Only one site can you give the answers to all these questions - Brisnet.com .

Be Prepared

Even though the Breeders's Cup is still a couple of weeks away, it is not too early to begin your handicapping. Start your day by reading the FREE Handicapper's Edge Newsletter. Our daily newsletter offers comprehensive coverage on all the top North American & European horses. Each day features BC news, workouts, quotes and in-depth analysis of the BC prep races. On Friday, October 26, the Edge's very own Track Bandit will handicap the entire Breeders' Cup Card.

Continue your preparations with Stable Alert. Our email notification service allows you to track the activity of your favorite horses and trainers for FREE. Each day you will be updated with all the workouts, entries & results. Stable Alert is perfect for monitoring the progress of all BC hopefuls. Simply enter the horses you wish to follow during the road to the Cup.

Follow all the preps for the Breeders' Cup with Custom Card. This unique time saving device allows you to create a past performance card based on your own specifications. No more hunting around for races that meet your handicapping criteria. With a couple quick clicks on the Custom Card menu, you can find the exact races you want. Use Custom Card each weekend to create past performances of just stakes races to keep your eye on all the contenders leading up to the Breeders' Cup.

Ultimate PPs & More!

Big race day handicapping is a little like big-game hunting. It pays to have the right tools. One handicapping tool you don't to be without on Breeders' Cup Day is our Ultimate Past Performances with Comments. No other past performances can match the quality and quantity of the information in Ultimates for the cost. Only Ultimate PPs with Comments have Prime Power, Speed/Pace/Class Ratings, Foreign Class Ratings, Pedigree Data, Track Bias stats, comments on each horse and so much more.

While American horses have historically held the upper hand on Breeders' Cup day, Europeans have more than held their own on the turf at Belmont Park. In fact, European-bred horses have swept the Mile and Turf both times Belmont has hosted the Cup. For a uniquely European perspective on the Breeders' Cup, Timeform will once again produce a special Breeders' Cup 2001 edition. This invaluable report offers the best and most accurate comparisons possible between stars from both sides of the Atlantic. Detailed comments and ratings are provided for every horse on the card. Only $10.00.

The Breeders' Cup Survivor Challenge!

How Far Will You Go?

On Breeders' Cup Day, October 27, Brisnet.com is offering a unique handicapping contest that's both fun and free to play! Introducing the Brisnet.com Breeders' Cup Survivor Challenge!

As a Brisnet member, you get to choose one horse in each Breeders' Cup race that you believe will hit the board (finish first, second or third). Hit the board in the most consecutive races beginning with leg one and you could win $1,000 cash. The format is simple. If your selection in race one finishes in the money you've survived to play leg two. Every race you hit the board moves you on to the next leg. All eight selections must be made by Noon eastern time on Saturday, October 27. Check back throughout the day to see how many players are still alive heading into the next Breeders' Cup event!

In the event more than one person is "alive" after the last race, the tiebreaker will be the most winning selections. In the event the tie is still not broken, the highest win payoff will be used. The third tiebreaker will be the most place horses selected. If a tie still exists, the remaining players will share the grand prize.

Grand Prize: $1,000 cash - winner take all!

Keeneland Offers Lower Takeout

The Keeneland Fall Meeting (October 5 - 27) will offer a new, lower takeout of 16% on all wagers. Historically 19% on exotic wagers, Keeneland's takeout will now be only 16%, the lowest in the country for multiple wagers (e.g. exacta). That is welcome news for handicappers in an era when many tracks often fail to do what's best for the fans.

"Bettors on track and at simulcast outlets throughout the country will receive a greater return on each dollar bet, which we believe will result in more money being wagered on our races," said Keeneland President Nick Nicholson.

Keeneland is following the example of the New York Racing Association, which concluded a record meet after introducing a new, lower takeout this year.

"Under the enlightened leadership of board chairman Barry Schwartz, the takeout was reduced at the New York Racing Association, starting with the Saratoga meeting."

"Keeneland and Belmont will alternate post times this fall," Nicholson continued. "On most days, races will be spaced about 15 minutes apart, enabling simulcast patrons a greater opportunity to watch the post parade and wager on their selection."

Online wagering will be available on Keeneland through TwinSpires.com. Remember active TwinSpires.com members automatically receive a 20% discount on Brisnet handicapping products. Support Keeneland and this great opportunity for you, the horseplayer.

Inkjet vs. Laser

Q: Is there a faster and more economical way to print files like the Ultimate Past Performancess from Brisnet.com?

A: Many home computer users have inkjet printers so one can print high quality, color pictures. What you may have gained in one area, you give up in another since printing text is more costly with an inkjet. These printers usually print in a mode that mixes all colors available to make black, wasting your color cartridge on regular text printing.

Laser printers provide the most bang for the buck when printing text-based past performances. Laser printers use black toner and are priced competitively compared to some of the mid-range inkjets. Lexmark's E210 (12ppm) and E312L (10ppm) laser printers sell for approximately $199.99 and $299.99, respectively*. Although the cartridges cost a bit more, the cost per page is substantially less than inkjets. HP sells their 1200se laser printer (15ppm) for $399.99*. Laser printers, while costing a bit more up front, will save you money down the road compared to the normal printing costs of an inkjet printer. Many of our customers have been quite happy with the speed and low cost of using a low-end laser printer for printing their Ultimate PPs.

If you choose to remain with an inkjet printer, consult your user's manual to see what settings can be used to reduce the amount of ink used while slightly lowering your print quality. This solution should pose no problem and still give you the quality needed to win at the track!

* Prices and specifications are from www.lexmark.com and www.hp.com. See websites for more details.
