ARCHIVE DATA FILES
NOW AVAILABLE ON THE NET!

Race handicappers know that thorough information leads to profitable bets. BRISnet customers who use our FREE handicapping software packages, and those who use our comma delimited files for other programs, know the importance of having complete data for every race, at every track played. Most "profitable" programs depend on building data sets, or models, that match race results with past performance information. This, of course, identifies successful handicapping factors specific to individual tracks and race types, resulting in a higher return on investment. . Until now, if you happened to miss any race dates (even handicappers go on vacation), or IF you wanted to quickly build a data set for a new program, you could only hope the dates you needed were still listed on our web page. We now have the solution to this problem. In response to our customers' requests, we are pleased to offer archived data files, available for downloading from our web site at www.brisnet.com/archive/.

Through the diligent efforts of our staff, we have developed a program which allows you to download any data file you need, for most every software file type we offer, dating back in some cases to the beginning of 1998. To make it an easy process for a massive procedure, we've created a search engine to help you locate the files you need. From our home page, click on the archive link and you will be taken to our BRISnet Archive File Server. From this page, you can order the data files you need to complete, or build, data sets for your favorite handicapping programs. Our MultiCAPS, DRF, Common Ground 2.0, A-Odds, Neurax, Early Track Data, Fast Charts, Import Charts, Import Results and Exotic Results files are available from the beginning of 1998. Files for ALLWays, Capsheet, Plus V and Neurax Pro are available from mid-1998, for most major tracks.

Accessing past dates for your handicapping program is simple and fast. From our archive page, we've provided a link to an easy-to-follow, step-by-step instruction page, so you can learn how to use our archive file server. To download past files, go to the archive page, click on the file type for the program you use, the track you play, and the date range, then click on "Find Files." All available files for the selected dates will appear in the window. Highlight the files you need, click on "Select Files", and the selected file names will then appear. Carefully review this list to determine if you have selected only those files you want. After confirming your selections, click on "Place Order," complete the required information, check for the accurate dollar amount , and click "Submit" to process the order. After the credit card transaction is approved, a new page is created containing the requested data files. Just go to this page (we'll even bookmark the place for you) and download the files to the appropriate folder or directory. It's very easy and very fast.

Download costs for the archived files are charged at "Gold Club" member rates. There is a \$20 minimum per order, with the charges posted directly to your credit card. Archived data files can not be applied to your BRISnet account. Refer to our Products and Prices page for specific download costs.

We think, and hordes of our members think, archived data files will prove invaluable for your handicapping prowess. Take advantage of this great new feature offered by Bloodstock Research, and watch your profits soar.

ONLINE CHALLENGE IS WIDE OPEN

by Richard Nilsen

The Brisnet.com Online Handicapping Challenge started off with a bang as several winners lit up the toteboard! Contestants who didn't have the best handicapping day of their life or even those who didn't participate should take solace in the fact that only two of the 10 winners paid less than \$10.00. Here, we will take a look at each race, beginning with the first leg.

In order to better follow the results recap below, we have provided the Ultimate PP's with Summary for Saturday as a sample.

Race 2 at Belmont Park
Contestants were challenged right from the start as this was a very unusual race. The two-year-old Maiden Special Weight featured several well-bred juveniles from high-profile barns who had already made their first start and finished off the board. Of the 11 which had already run, none of them had hit the board in their prior start. However, several in here figured to improve, including WILD BLADE, my top selection. Wild Blade was coming off a bullet 58:1 workout, owned outstanding BRIS Pace Ratings, and was getting first time Lasix. Wild Blade ran an excellent race to finish second on Saturday, but running a good race sometimes isn't enough.

The win went to POSTPONED, the lone first time starter. The Scotty Schulhofer trainee had many factors in his favor. As the BRIS Ultimate PP's showed, Postponed was a \$835,000 yearling and the most expensive of all Summer Squall offspring sold at public auction in 1998. Also, his dam had 100-percent two-year-old winners, indicating precocious breeding. Finally, Jose Santos wins at a 17-percent clip, 52-percent in-the-money, and a +1.21 ROI (return on investment) when riding for Schulhofer. Further, the Wizard is his Analysis sheet, noted "1st timer Postponed is well bred and meets no killers in here." It came as little surprise that several contestants, including the top two finishers, nailed this \$55.00 winner.

Race 4 at Philadelphia Park
A "stellar" group of \$5,000, non-winners of two lifetime, claimers met in a 6 furlong event at Philadelphia. The BRIS Track Bias Stats told me that 72-percent of the 6f races here were being won by speed horses, so I narrowed my search down by this criteria. Unfortunately, of the two front runners, I'M A SECRET and LEADING LENA, I chose the wrong one. The latter took this event as the 5-2 favorite, paying \$7.20 to win. Leading Lena was the only favorite to win on the day.

Race 5 at Turfway Park
I only liked two horses in this event, SARATOGA SUMMER and DIXIELAND SHAM, ranked first and second respectively on BRIS Current Class (a powerful rating found on the Ultimate PP Summary). Saratoga Summer, a three-year-old, looked like a horse who didn't have to have the lead and figured to sit a perfect trip. DOUBLE AFFAIR, the eventual winner at \$5.80, appeared vulnerable cutting back off a 10-furlong win at Saratoga to 8 furlongs at Turfway. Where I missed the boat is that Double Affair owned the best BRIS Speed Rating and had an outstanding record at the one-mile distance. Double Affair won the \$50,000 starter handicap for trainer Elliot Walden and rider Shane Sellers.

Race 10 at Philadelphia Park
Several runners had a chance in this 9-furlong turf event for "two other than" allowance horses. I love horses that improve dramatically when given a change such as medication, equipment, etc. BOSTIC HILL fit that match perfectly. The former \$4,000 claimer had run well in two turf starts but was a new horse when equipped with blinkers in his last. He responded with a powerful 1-1/2 length win, earning an 88 BRIS Speed Rating, tops in the field. If he could run back to that effort he would win this race, and that's exactly what Bostic Hill did. He paid a generous \$12.00 to win.

Players concerned about his outside post should have consulted the BRIS Track Bias Stats, which showed that the majority of the dozen turf routes had actually been won by posts eight and beyond.

Race 8 at Calder
This stakes for two-year-old fillies was extremely well matched. There were four undefeated runners and several others with excellent records. I finished second with FAST DISPERSAL, a talented filly with several factors in her favor. The winner was SCRATCH PAD, who was exiting a huge 9-3/4 length maiden win at Calder. She was only winner around two turns in the field of 10 fillies. Her 90 BRIS Speed Rating was also tied for tops in the field.

Race 7 at Woodbine
The bomb of the day, and possibly for the whole contest, was SUGARLOAF at Woodbine. The first time starter was very difficult to come up with despite good dam statistics. Her dam had produced seven other winners including a stakes winner. Sugarloaf's dam was also stakes-placed herself.

My top selection in here was another first time starter, ENDING WELL, who finished third. The daughter of End Sweep had very precocious breeding, a good inside post, and hailed from an excellent barn. Even in hindsight, she was a good selection.

Race 9 at Turfway Park
The second Turfway race was a more contentious race than the starter handicap earlier in the day. Eight distaffers met in this 1-1/16 mile event, and my choice was LET. She finished second to RUBY SURPRISE, who sported an excellent record over the course. Never worse than second at Turfway, Ruby Surprise kept that record intact with her win under new rider Willie Martinez. She was the Wizard's value play, noting "Ruby Surprise gets a major rider change to the red hot Martinez. Has raced twice at Turfway with a win and a second. Tactical speed to sit a good stalking trip and should be a price in here."

The \$22.20 winner was tops on BRIS Speed in the Race Summary, second on BRIS Current Class, and third on Prime Power. I felt COUNTESS DIANA was a very beatable horse in here. Her lone win since her comeback was an allowance score in the slop, followed by a dismal ninth place finish against stakes competition. Her trainer was not only a low 8-percent winner with brief layoff horses (31-90 days) but only 17-percent finish in the money. She finished off the board.

Race 8 at Belmont Park
For the fourth time on the day, my top selection finished second. COMIC STRIP was upset by WITH THE FLOW, who paid \$36 to win. This was one of the most difficult winners to come up with. In fact only five of the top 75 contestants nailed this one. What did he have going for him? With The Flow was trained by one of the nation's best turf conditioners, Christopher Clement, and he showed tremendous ability overseas. In his second career start, With the Flow ran a 121 Foreign Class Rating, a huge number. Although his four U.S. starts were all competitive, With The Flow had not proven that he could step into Grade 2 company and win. Instead, he waited until Saturday to prove that.

Race 7 at Remington Park
I really felt that this race was between LOWFLYINDUCK and NINETY FOUR MODEL. They ended up finishing second and third, respectively, as ESSOESS won and paid \$10.20. Essoess owned the best BRIS Pace Ratings, and the Track Bias Stats showed that 41-percent of the turf sprints here were being won in wire-to-wire fashion. Like Ruby Surprise, this was another value play given out by the Wizard.

Race 8 at Louisiana Downs
In the finale I nailed my second winner of the day, MARTHA MAE. Like the rest of the card, this was a tough race. Several had a chance to win in here. Despite the 4-percent jockey in the irons, Martha Mae was my choice for several reasons. First, she was turning back in distance and had won her last sprint effort impressively. She had a good record at the track, and this jockey had ridden her well. Her trainer had also spotted her at the right level in this race. I almost went with BAYTOBAY HELLER, but I did not like the way she had finished (or failed to finish) in her recent starts.

SUMMARY
As the results indicate this was a very difficult card to handicap. Four or five winners is very impressive, but this contest is far from over. Don't despair if you had three or less wins. One big week puts any contestant back in the hunt for the \$10,000 grand prize and one of four trips to Vegas. Unlike most contests, the Online Challenge has prizes going to 30th place, and there is a \$2,500 weekly cash award.

Congratulations go out to Greg F. in Minnesota and Robert D. in California who both nailed the same five winners and split \$2,500 cash!

Entries for next Saturday will be available online at www.brisnet.com as soon as late Thursday evening. There will be a link to the FREE Flash Entries on the Challenge page. Also, later that evening Brisnet Contest Card file s will be available for our handicapping products and software data files. To make your job easier, you can access all 10 races in one file at regular BRIS prices. Good luck!

SCOUTING REPORTS ARE BACK!

Seven Issues Beginning Sept. 23

Building on his outstanding success with last year's Breeders' Cup sheet, the Wizard is proud to announce the return of his popular Breeders' Cup Scouting Reports. Featuring in-depth coverage and up to the minute analysis and news of all major contenders, this report will be offered on Thursday of each week beginning Sept. 23. Seven issues in all will be available, with the final issue being November 4, two days before the big event. This year's format is new, expanded and simplified. A sample of what you'll find in each issue is presented below.

Each week updates are added for all major stakes races expected to impact the Breeders' Cup, as well as late breaking news from the tracks and direct from the trainers concerning their participants. The Scouting Reports can prove invaluable for those interested in futures wagerings on this event. The final two issues will also include the Wizard's own odds line, a great way to get a jump on the rest of the crowd for wagering in advance. At only \$8 per issue, the information each report provides could pay for itself many, many times over. However, you can take advantage of ONE FREE Scouting Report in October - a great way to check out this sheet if you haven't in the past.

In a race for the ages Behrens was taken off the early pace, then wheeled five wide around the second turn as he forged to the lead entering the stretch. Victory Gallop quickly engaged him and took the lead inside the 1/16 pole, but Behrens came on again and just missed at the wire by a nose. It was a long way back to the rest of the field.

COMMENTS: If ever there was a horse that was targeted for a specific race, Behrens is it. The BC Classic has been the goal of trainer James Bond since the beginning of the year, and he has judiciously chosen his spots along the way to get his potential Horse Of The Year there fresh and sound. While other top rivals for the crown have faltered as the year has gone by (Victory Gallop, Mazel Trick, Real Quiet, Freehouse, etc.), Behrens has come through time and again with huge efforts and continued to stay sound and healthy. With two G1 wins, two G2 wins, and three seconds from seven starts, Behrens can ensure Horse Of The Year honors with a win in the BC Classic. He will come in the likely favorite, and deservedly so. He has proved the gamest of competitors against top competition all year and won his only two starts at the BC Distance of 10F, including the G1 Gulfstream Park Hcp, run at the site of this year's Breeders' Cup. Once a horse who needed to be on or close to the pace, Behrens has become the consummate professional and learned how to rate wherever jockey Chavez asks him to. He's the one they're all gunning for in this year's Classic.
