The Kentucky
Handicapper, the foremost authority on Kentucky
racing, enjoyed a terrific afternoon at Ellis
Park on August 19, selecting nine of
10 winners on top. After nailing the first race,
the white-hot professional handicapper missed the
second race and then reeled off eight straight
winners.
The Kentucky
Handicapper had another big day on August 13,
correctly tabbing seven winners on top. He
selected the winners of the first and third as well
as the final five races on the 11-race program.
The Kentucky Handicapper sheet is the best source
for winners at Turfway Park and Keeneland.
It's a bargain for only $3.

To conform with the
new industry policy, Brisnet.com will be
using "OSA" as the new track code for Oak
Tree at Santa Anita. Every fall the Santa Anita
racetrack is run by the Oak Tree Association. To
reflect this specific meet the track code used
during this time will change from SA to OSA. The
2005 meet runs Sept. 28 through Nov. 6.
Brisnet.com and the
Daily Racing Form will be maintaining horse's
records over the Santa Anita track in one record.

Averaging nearly
one stakes race a day during its 31-day campaign,
the 37th season of the Oak Tree Racing
Association begins Wednesday, Sept. 28
and concludes with California Cup XVI on Nov. 6. Six
graded stakes races, two of which are Grade 1s, will
be decided on opening weekend, Oct. 1 and 2. The
$500,000 Yellow Ribbon Stakes, a prestigious
Grade I fixture for fillies and mares on the turf,
the $500,000 Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap (Gr.
II) for 3-year-olds and up, and the Grade II,
$200,000 Oak Leaf Stakes for 2-year-old fillies,
are all featured on Saturday, Oct. 1.
In addition to
great racing, the first Saturday also provides
several other reasons to break away from the
television and head out to the track. Oak Tree has a
Microbrew Festival, a classic stein giveaway,
and the first leg of an NTRA qualifying tournament.
Taking a look at
the last two year's of the Oak Tree meeting, we've
found a few nuggets of information from the
Brisnet.com database that every handicapper
should know when tackling this track.
MITCHELL & COMPANY
Mike Mitchell
dominated the meet in 2004, winning 13 races at a
sensational 43-percent clip. Just as
impressively, 70 percent of his runners hit the
board and flat betting all of his starters resulted
in a +0.57 ROI (return on investment). Mitchell
spreads the wealth around but is most dangerous when
using Corey Nakatani or Victor Espinoza.
Surprisingly,
trainer Bobby Frankel was also a flat bet
profit at +0.61 based on 10 winners from only 30
starters. Frankel used no less than seven jockeys to
win those ten races! Two other trainers who had
excellent meets were John Sadler (9 for 44, 20%) and
Jack Carava (8 for 40, 20%).
Mitchell was just
as dangerous with his turf starters, winning with
five of 11 for a healthy 45-percent rate. Bobby
Frankel won with seven of his 22 turf starters
(31%). A sleeper as far as turf trainers go is
Chris Paasch, who won with three of his five
starters. Neil Drysdale and Dick Mandella
both won with three turf runners but needed 12
starts each to accomplish the task.
TURF CHALK
When looking at the
success rate of favorites, separated by dirt
versus turf, a surprising result popped up. In each
of that last two Oak Tree meetings, turf favorites
outperformed dirt favorites and were actually a flat
bet profit each season. Turf chalk was victorious
41.3 percent in 2004 with a +0.38 ROI. In 2003
"only" 39 percent of the turf favorites won for a
+0.10 ROI.
As for turf jockeys
Corey Nakatani dominated the grass course last
season, winning 34 percent. Alex Bisono was the
sleeper on the turf course, winning with five of his
24 mounts (20%).
TRACK BIAS NUGGETS
-
5.5 furlongs:
outside posts have been a big negative the last
two racing seasons.
-
6 furlongs:
tactical speed is a must. Over 80% of the
winners are within three lengths at the first
call.
-
7 furlongs: the
rail (one hole) and inside posts dominate.
Tactical speed is a must.
-
One mile: deep,
one-run closers rarely win.
-
1/16 miles:
less than 15% of the races have been won
wire-to-wire.
-
6.5 f turf:
mid-pack runners (pressers) and outside posts
hold a slight advantage.
-
One mile turf:
late runners dominate, winning over 60% of the
races.
-
1 1/8 miles
turf: there has not been a winner break from the
rail in over two years (0 for 16).
CLOSING DAY
Moved to closing
day this year, California Cup is comprised of
11 state-bred races. California Cup, which puts the
Golden State in the spotlight, takes place a week
after the Breeders' Cup. There will be a $1
million guaranteed Pick Six pool and a mandatory
payout due to closing day, two very good reasons to
tackle this contentious card.
The big day of
racing showcases eight stakes worth $100,000 or
more, headed by the $250,000 California Cup Classic,
plus two handicaps worth $50,000 each for horses
that have run in claiming races. Post time on Cal
Cup day is 11:15 a.m

The
Wizard has been on a tear all year long with his
popular Pick of the Day sheet. Available 7
days per week at Brisnet.com, the Pick of the
Day pinpoints the best play of the day and provides
expert wagers and analysis.
In
August the Wizard nailed 16 Pick of the Day
winners from only 30 plays. This included a
recent $10.60 winner at the Spa along with the
$35.60 exacta three times!
With
another month of over 50 percent winners, the
Wizard brought his overall win record for the year
to over 40 percent. Now that's some handicapping!
Tap into the Wizard's insight the next time you play
the races.
Wizard Profitable at Saratoga
The
Wizard crushed the competition at his home track of
Saratoga. Over the course of the 36-day meet the
Wizard's top selections won 34% of the races, but
more impressively, did so at a flat bet profit. With
his Best Bets, he nailed 44% winners, again at a
flat bet profit!
Top Selections: 115 out of 340 (34%,
$696.60, +$16.60)
Best Bet picks: 44 of 101 (44%, $213.40, +$11.40)
In
addition to several double digit winners, the Wizard
tabbed Flower Alley as the winner of the Travers
Stakes and had a $20 top winner on the
Travers Day undercard.
Look
for the Wizard daily selections for New York,
Kentucky, Southern California and select meets.
