100 Members Advance to Brisnet.com Challenge Finals on Oct. 28th
August 2006
Gary Swartz, of Highlands Ranch, CO claimed a Grand Prize of $1,500 when he topped the field on August 19th in the first of three single day satellite events of the 8th annual Brisnet.com Online Handicapping Challenge.
Swartz, along with the next 99 finishers from the August 19th event, have qualified to compete in the Brisnet.com Challenge Finals on October 28th. On that day only 300 members (the top 100 players from each of the three events, August 19th, September 16th & October 14th) will compete for three qualifying spots to the NTRA/DRF National Handicapping Championships in Las Vegas.
The Brisnet.com Challenge satellite events are FREE to play for Brisnet.com members and require entrants to select one horse in the 8 designated contest races. For each correct selection the player earns the mythical $2 Win and Place mutual payoff. On August 19th, Swartz finished with five winners and a Return on Investment (ROI) of $82.90. That was just enough for him to best runner-up Dale Holman of Willow Park, TX who completed the day with five winners and a ROI of $81.30. Third place finisher David Sloter actually completed the day with more winners (six) than the top two; however, his ROI was only $77.60. Holman and Sloter earned cash prizes of $750 and $400 respectively for their second and third place efforts.
Swartz, Holman & Sloter were each asked about their handicapping experience and the products they use and had the following to say:
"I use BRIS products at various times and find them to be an exceptional handicapping aid. My past experience as an owner/trainer, perusing the pps and a lot of racing luck helped me win this contest." -Gary Swartz
"I have been using Brisnet products for over 15 years. My handicapping tool of choice is always Ultimate PPs with comments. This report contains essential information and accurate pace figures that I rely on to make my selections." - Dale Holman
"I have been going to the races for over 25 years casually. I usually wager on the big races like Breeders' Cup and the Triple Crown races and maybe hit a local track once a year. I used to have my own method for handicapping but started using the Ultimate Past Performances provided by Brisnet. I don't lock into any one factor, rather check out the race and try to determine which factor may have the most impact in the race. There is such good information that it allows for a lot of flexibility in developing a strategy for each race. I have come to the point where I don't go to the windows without the information in the Ultimate Past Performances." - David Sloter
In addition to the first, second and third place cash prizes, Brisnet.com awarded online credit and prizes from the Brisnet Bookstore down to 25th place. The remaining two satellite events are scheduled for September 16th and October 14th. Be sure to check out the contest site www.brisnet.com/challenge for contest details and selection deadlines.
