Josh’s Madelyn makes sharp close for
Raven win
Michael Pressley and Jim Neidig’s JOSH’S MADELYN (Quiet
American) ran an impressive race Friday as she rocketed down the
stretch to take the $224,200 Raven Run S. (G2) at Keeneland. The
Larry Jones charge hung at the back of the 10-horse field through
the first half of the muddy seven-furlong race and came charging
eight-wide near the quarter pole, making her ticket holders happy
in the end when winning by 1 1/4 lengths.
Vision of Beauty (Danzig) held as the pacesetter throughout
most of the race, setting fractions in :21 3/5, :44 1/5 and 1:09
4/5. Jockey Justin Shepherd kept Josh’s Madelyn in the rear, but
improved his position to second by the time they had left the far
turn. Josh’s Madelyn earned her first victory on the Lexington,
Kentucky track.
As the winning miss, she paid $13.20, $6.20 and $4.60, keying
a $57.20 exacta at 5-1. Vision of Beauty held on to second as the
3-1 second choice and returned $4.60 and $3.80. Feline Story (Tale
of the Cat), also 5-1, gave $3.80 while rounding out the $281.40
trifecta. Dance Tune (French Deputy) placed just off the board
and finished the 5-2-9-8, $3,056.40 superfecta.
Format (Furiously), Storm’s Darling (Storm Boot), Miss Moses (Gulch),
Salty Romance (Salt Lake), 9-5 favorite Friendly Michelle (Artax)
and Silver Crown (Distorted Humor) followed.
The victory comes on the heels of an 11 1/2-length win last
out at Ellis Park and Josh’s Madelyn now shows a mark of 14-6-2-1,
more than doubling her earnings to $254,202. The bay filly was
purchased at the Keeneland September sale for $10,000.
Josh’s Madelyn was bred in Kentucky by Mount Brilliant Farm
LLC and is out of the winning mare Intend to Win (Housebuster).
She has a half-sister named Oaks Victoria (Honour and Glory).
