Sister Swank takes Valley View

Heiligbrodt Racing Stable’s SISTER SWANK (Skip Away) found a
kick in her step to storm past the leader and take the $116,300
Valley View S. (G3)
title on a yielding Keeneland turf course
Saturday. The Steve Asmussen charge sat just off fractions of :23
2/5, :48 3/5, 1:14 1/5 and 1:40 1/5 before taking the lead in
midstretch. She stopped the clock in 1:46 3/5 for the 1 1/16-mile race, 1 1/4
lengths ahead of her nearest competitor.

“She was slow to find her best stride, but once she got
leveled off, she found her best gear,” jockey Pat Day said.

The three-year-old filly left the gate at 3-1 and paid $8.60,
$6 and $4.20 for her effort. Jinny’s Gold (Gold Fever), who led a
majority of the race, came in second to return $7.20 and $4.80 at
nearly 7-1, rounding out a $56.60 exacta. Shadow Cast (Smart
Strike) brought up the third spot, giving $4 and finishing the $263.60
trifecta. Topango (Distant View) finished one spot off the board,
capping the 7-3-12-9 superfecta ticket that paid $7,573.20.

Catboat (Tale of the Cat), Rich Find (Exploit), Bay Tree (Ire)
(Daylami [Ire]), Lenatareese (Broad Brush), This One for Abbey (Prospectors
Gamble), Pretty Jane (Subordination), Barnsy (Langfuhr) and Beau
Watch (Beau Genuis) rounded out the field. Lady Offense (Lee’s
Badger) and Cape Town Lass (Horse Chestnut [SAf]) were scratched
from the race.

Sister Swank improved her record to 10-4-3-2 while winning her
first stakes trophy. In the process, the chestnut increased her
earnings to $241,321.

Bred by Kenirey Stud Farm in Kentucky, she is out of
the winning mare Max Donnell (Critique) and is a half-sister to
stakes-winning Supah Jess (On to Glory).
