Grade 1 winner TAPIT (Pulpit) has been retired from racing and
will begin his stud career next year at Gainesway Farm near
Lexington, Kentucky. He will stand as the property of a syndicate
for a fee of $15,000 live foal.
Trained by Michael Dickinson, Tapit won both his starts at
two, including the Laurel Futurity (G3) by 4 1/2 lengths as the
even-money favorite. The gray finished sixth in the Florida Derby
(G1) in his three-year-old debut, then captured the Wood Memorial
(G1) by a half-length over Master David (Grand Slam) and
Eddington (Unbridled). He finished ninth in the Kentucky Derby
(G1) and returned to action in the Pennsylvania Derby (G2) on
Labor Day, where he also ran ninth. Tapit will head to the
breeding shed with three wins in six starts and $557,300 in
earnings.
“Tapit has been as sound as any horse can be, his
performance in the Wood was spectacular,” Dickinson said.
Tapit, a $650,000 sales yearling, is the first foal out of the
stakes winning Unbridled mare Tap Your Heels, a half-sister to
champion sprinter Rubiano. His female family includes successful
sires Glitterman and Relaunch.
