Theater R. N. gets up late

Pegasus Thoroughbred Training Center LLC’s THEATER R. N.
(Theatrical [Ire]) advanced on the inside, dipped three-wide
turning for home, and outfinished stablemate Lots of Hope
(Brz) (Candy Stripes) to the wire in taking the $150,000 Las
Palmas H. (G2)
at Santa Anita on Sunday. The four-year-old rated
in midpack before putting in her final bid, stopping the clock
in 1:47 4/5 for the nine-furlong firm turf affair. The 5-1 shot
gave back $13.80, $7.60 and $4.40 for trainer Bobby Frankel and
jockey Rene Douglas.

Lots of Hope advanced up the rail and appeared to have the
best chance at the win until the latter stages, when settling for
a hard luck second by a half-length. The chestnut paid $6 and $3.20 and completed
a $25.80 ($1) exacta at 4-1. Good Student (Arg) (Louis Quatorze)
opened up daylight turning for home but could not endure to the
wire, falling a length short of the top prize. The 2-1 choice
paid $2.80 while completing the $100 trifecta ($1). Miss Loren
(Arg) (Numerous) got fourth to finalize the $275.50 superfecta
($1) (3-5-4-8) as the 2-1 second choice. Uraib (Ire) (Mark of Esteem [Ire])
was next and trailed by Navaja (NZ) (Daggers Drawn) and
Fencelineneighbor (Wild Rush). Hoh Buzzard (Ire) (Alhaarth) was
scratched.

Theater R. N. moved her mark to 5-4-0-0 with earnings of
$181,800. She is the first foal produced from Grade 2 heroine
Yokama (Irish River [Ire]).

The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Allen E. Paulson, and fetched a
final bid of $85,000 at the 2001 Keeneland September Yearling
Sale.
