Accurate rolls late at Aqueduct
Puglisi Stables’ ACCURATE (Precise End) put in a furious late
rally to catch a game Summerland (Western Expression) and win the
$125,000 Great White Way division of the New York Stallion S. at Aqueduct on Sunday. Trained by
Steve Klesaris and piloted by Norberto Arroyo Jr., the
two-year-old colt was reserved near the back of the pack behind
splits of :21 4/5 and :45 1/5 for the half-mile, came wide
turning for home and switched to the inside to earn his initial
stakes score. The final time of the six furlong fast track race was 1:11
1/5, and the dark bay gave back $9.40, $4.70 and $3.40 at 7-2.
Summerland was clear in midstretch but fell just a neck shy
of the win, paying $4.80 and $3.60 for the place. The juvenile completed the $42.60 exacta at 3-1. Distinctive Trick
(Distinctive Pro) was four lengths back in third at 11-1, good
for $5.20 while rounding out the $195 trifecta (9-7-4). Rob’s Boy Mat (Ormsby) was next and trailed by 3-2 choice Western Galaxy
(Western Expression), Ok Let’s Go (A. P Jet), Christian X. (A. P Jet), Pain and Glory (Precise End) and Swell (Rage). Frankie
Peppers (Brushed On) was withdrawn.
Accurate moved his mark to 5-2-0-1 following the win, while
his earnings ballooned to $115,688. He was bred in the Empire
State by Sez Who Thoroughbreds and purchased at the 2004 OBS
April Two-year-olds in Training Sale for $85,000. Accurate was
produced from Love Destiny (Silver Deputy) and has an unnamed
yearling half-sister by Delaware Township.
In other events on New York Showcase Day, Karakorum Farm’s
KARAKORUM SPLENDOR (A. P Jet) took the lead shortly after the
start and pulled clear to a 3 3/4-length victory in the $125,000
Fifth Avenue division. Trained by James Jerkens, the two-year-old filly
recorded fractions of :22 2/5, :45 4/5 and :58 before completing
the six panels in 1:10 4/5 under Pablo Fragoso.
The winner moved her mark to 4-2-1-0 with a bankroll of
$121,650. She was second in the Maid of the Mist S. most
recently.
In the $100,000 Cormorant division, John T. and Theresa E.
Behrendt’s homebred PA PA DA (Incurable Optimist) took the lead
turning for home and endured valiantly to the wire to register
his first stakes tally. The David Donk trainee finished up the
one-mile good turf fray in 1:37 3/5 beneath Jose Espinoza and improved his
record to 14-3-4-3, $188,390.
Flying Zee Stable’s homebred KEVIN’S DECISION (Expensive
Decision) was the recipient of a perfect ground-saving ride from Edgar
Prado en route to a 2 1/4-length tally in the $100,000 Perfect Arc division over the
lawn. Trained by Carlos Martin, the four-year-old lass stopped
the teletimer in 1:37 for the one mile grassy affair. She earned her black-type
credit in this test and increased her earnings to $134,714 to go along with a
17-2-5-3 career mark.
