Crafty Shaw sidelined with injury
Multiple Grade 3 winner and millionaire CRAFTY SHAW (Crafty
Prospector) will not run in this year’s edition of the Clark H. (G2)
at Churchill Downs. Trainer Peter Vestal said that a foot injury
would put the six-year-old out of action for the rest of the year
and the beginning of 2005.
A slight filling in Crafty Shaw’s left front ankle caused him
to miss the Ack Ack H. (G3) last month. The chestnut was returned
to training, but further examination revealed a bone chip in his
ankle. Vestal said that the veteran runner would be put on three
months of farm rest and return next year.
“It’s not something that needs any surgical repair,”
Vestal said. “A little ‘R & R’ ought to take care of it.
It’s good we found it before we ran him one more time and did any
more damage.”
Crafty Shaw ran second in the 2002 Clark and finished a
disappointing 11th last year. He owns a career record of 42-15-7-7,
including nine stakes victories, with $1,040,439 in earnings.
