Favorites in the minority during Fall
Festival

Pimlico’s Fall Festival of Racing on Saturday featured six
stakes, three of which were graded, but the public’s picks didn’t
fare too well against their rivals.

Only two of those stakes saw the favorite come out on top, but
Rosalee Davison’s HEAR US ROAR (Lion Hearted) was one of those
who ran to her odds. The Francis Campitelli-trained juvenile miss
led throughout the $100,000 Selima
S.
, but she had to dig down to
move her record to a perfect three for three. The final margin
was a neck as Hear Us Roar completed 1 1/16 miles on the fast
track in 1:46 1/5.

Stewart Elliott picked up the mount on the bay filly when
regular rider Luis Garcia hurt his neck in a spill in the 4TH
race. Elliott would go on to take the final race of the day, the
Frank J. DeFrancis Memorial Dash (G1), aboard Wildcat Heir
(Forest Wildcat) at 16-1.

Hear Us Roar was sent off at 3-5 and returned $3.20, $2.40 and
$2.20 while pushing her earnings to $128,680. She earned her
second stakes score here after taking the Maryland Million Lassie
S. in early October.

Next out in the $50,000 Stefanita
S.
, Lois S. Nervitt’s
SENSIBLY CHIC (Distorted Humor) finished a length in front of
Wallop as the 4-1 second choice. The Tim Tullock charge returned
$10.80, $7.20 and $4.60 while going three-quarters in 1:10 2/5.
Runner-up Wallop gave back $21.80 and $9 at 24-1.

This is Sensibly Chic’s second black-type victory after she
captured the Broadway H. at Aqueduct earlier in the season. The
four-year-old chestnut now owns a 13-6-1-2 mark to go along with
$214,617 in earnings.

Ryehill Farm’s IRISH COLONY (Larrupin’) beat a graded-caliber
field with a 1 1/2-length score in the $100,000 Charles H. Hadry
S.
Ridden by Steve Hamilton, the Ron Cartwright-trained
four-year-old was sent off at 13-1 and paid out $28, $7.20 and
$3.60 for stopping the clock in 1:43 1/5 for 1 1/16 miles.

Irish Colony, third in the Maryland Million Classic S. two
before this one, improved his record to 31-11-6-4, $293,315.
Grade 2 hero Bowman’s Band (Dixieland Band) finished second by
three parts of a length while Grade 1 winner Gygistar
(Prospector’s Music) came in fifth.

In the other stakes, Defer (Danzig) was the other favorite to
win when scoring by two lengths at 3-5 in the Laurel Futurity
(G3). Essence (Gulch) was the winner of the Anne Arundel S. (G3)
at 3-1.
