New Jersey tracks post gains
Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands, operated by the New Jersey
Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA), showed gains in handle
and attendance for the 2004 season.
Combined total handle increased by 15.7 percent for the two
tracks, which conducted 119 Thoroughbred racing dates. The
on-track handle rose by 2.9 percent and attendance increased by
less than 1 percent.
“Both meets saw gains in on-track and total handle and
that’s something we can build on for next year,” said Robert
Kulina, vice president of Thoroughbred racing for the NJSEA.
Average total handle was $2,649,490, while average on-track
handle totaled $623,831. Average attendance came to 7,683.
