Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) runner-up ROSES IN MAY (Devil His
Due) will get the rest of the year off. Trainer Dale Romans had
been pointing the four-year-old colt toward the Clark H. (G2) at
Churchill Downs on November 26, but the Grade 1 winner won’t be
seen again under silks until next year.

Owner Ken Ramsey said they had a change of heart because of
how hard Roses in May ran at Lone Star Park.

“He ran his eyeballs out and I’m afraid that we emptied
him out,” Ramsey said. “We’re doing what is best for
the horse. We’re going to freshen him up…over the winter and
point him to the Donn H. (G1). Then we’re going to take him
to Dubai and try to win the $3.6 million (winner’s share) in the
Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1).”

The $500,000 Donn will be run on February 5 and the $6 million
Dubai World Cup on March 26.

Roses in May has earned $1,795,187 from a 11-7-3-0 line. He
won his first five starts this year, including the Whitney H. (G1),
prior to his second-place finish to Ghostzapper (Awesome Again)
in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
