Friday’s Top Flight H. (G2) at Aqueduct has drawn seven
distaffers for the one-mile test, including the Grade 1-placed
DAYDREAMING (A. P. Indy), but we’ll try to beat her with BENDING
STRINGS (American Chance), who enters here off two wins in a row.
Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, the three-year-old took the Safely
Kept Breeders’ Cup S. (G3) two back before turning in a 5 1/4-length
victory in the First Flight H. (G2) last time. The former of
those contests was run at six furlongs, while the latter event
was a seven-furlong affair. The addition of an eighth of a mile
should suit the sophomore lass, and she rates our top selection.
Coming off a brief layoff, Daydreaming has had a successful
2004 campaign, with a record of 7-4-1-1. In her last outing, the
bay took the Indiana Breeders’ Cup Oaks (G3), and she finished a
fine second to Stellar Jayne (Wild Rush) in the Gazelle H. (G1)
before that. She’ll get the services of Jerry Bailey and will be
tough to beat.
ROAR EMOTION (Roar) shortens in distance for this event,
having finished second in the nine-furlong Turn Back the Alarm H.
(G3) last out. She has shown ability at this level, taking the
Sabin H. (G3) by 5 1/2 lengths earlier this year. She could close
well for part.
The Bobby Frankel-trained POP PRINCESS (Alphabet Soup) enters
here off two wins in a row as well, but in allowance company. Her
last victory did come at this distance, and the gray could
surprise as she steps up here. CAUGHT IN THE RAIN (Petionville)
switches back to the dirt here and may enjoy the change. Before
finishing fifth last out in the Violet H. (G3), the five-year-old
was on a three-race win streak. Don’t forget her at the windows.
DISTINCTIVE KITTEN (Distinctive Pro) steps up here and may
need one start at this level. We’ll watch. TEMPUS FUGIT (Alphabet
Soup), a winner last out in an optional claimer over this
distance, will make her first start for conditioner Bruce Levine.
We’ll let her beat us.
