Chaposa Springs features an Ebony Breeze

Last updated: 12/28/04 4:58 PM

Friday’s $100,000 Chaposa Springs H. (G3), which was originally scheduled to
be run on New Year’s Day at Calder, has been moved forward one day in order to
retain its graded status and has attracted a good field of seven distaffers,
including one coupled entry. Three-time Grade 3 heroine
EBONY BREEZE (Belong to
Me) heads the seven-furlong contest and has really shown a preference for the South Florida oval
in two career attempts. The Bill Mott-trained four-year-old broke her maiden by
9 3/4 lengths at Calder in 2002 and dominated last year’s Azalea Breeders’ Cup
S. (G3) by 4 1/4 lengths. Jerry Bailey rides.

The 120-pound highweight is ALIX M (End Sweep), a one-length winner of the
Connie’s Magic S. in her most recent outing. Trained by Ron Spatz, the locally
based four-year-old will be making her graded bow with Cornelio Velasquez in the
saddle. Another contender is REVOLUTIONARY ACT (Boston Harbor), who comes off a
sharp score in the Holiday Inaugural S. at Turfway Park and recorded a 7
1/2-length allowance win at Keeneland three starts back. POP PRINCESS (Alphabet
Soup), who had a two-race winning skein snapped when fourth in the Top Flight H.
(G2) last time, will represent the Bobby Frankel shedrow in the Chaposa.

The complete field, from the rail with riders and weights, is Revolutionary
Act, Eibar Coa, 115; EXPECT AN ANGEL (Valid Expectations), James Lopez, 110;
Alix M; Ebony Breeze, 116; LAWFUL NICE (Old Trieste), Manny Aguilar, 110; Pop
Princess, Edgar Prado, 114; and HABIBOO (Unbridled’s Song), Eddie Castro, 112.

Lawful Nice and Habiboo will run coupled.
