Kilroe Mile awarded Grade 1 status

The American Graded Stakes Committee announced its list of graded stakes
races for 2005 on Wednesday, one day after its annual grading session in
Lexington, Kentucky. The committee reviewed 742 unrestricted stakes races with a
purse of at least $75,000 and assigned graded status to 467 of them, 13 less
than were graded in 2004. Of all the eligible races, 62.9 percent received
graded status while 275, or 37.1 percent, did not.

Overall, there are 100 Grade 1 races, representing 21.4 percent; 159 Grade 2
races, representing 34 percent; and 208 Grade 3 races, representing 44.5 percent
of all graded stakes races for 2005.

One race was upgraded to Grade 1 status for 2005: the Frank E. Kilroe Mile H.
at Santa Anita.

One race was downgraded from Grade 1 to Grade 2: the Milady Breeders’ Cup H.
at Hollywood Park.

Six races were upgraded to Grade 2 status for 2005: the Comely S. at
Aqueduct; Carry Back S. and Smile Sprint H. at Calder Race Course; Shirley Jones
H. at Gulfstream Park; and Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Breeders’ Cup H. at
Prairie Meadows.

Five races were downgraded from Grade 2 to Grade 3: the Knickerbocker H. at
Aqueduct; Arlington Classic S. at Arlington Park; Silverbulletday S. at Fair
Grounds; Monmouth Breeders’ Cup Oaks at Monmouth Park; and Schuylerville S. at
Saratoga. The Forest Hills H. at Belmont Park was not eligible for grading in
2005.



Eleven races were upgraded to Grade 3 status for 2005: the Francis A. Genter
S. at Calder Race Course; Pocahontas S. at Churchill Downs; Delta Jackpot S. at
Delta Downs; Hurricane Bertie H. and Old Hat S. at Gulfstream Park; Jim Murray
Memorial H. at Hollywood Park; Madison S. and Perryville S. at Keeneland;
Rebel S. at Oaklawn Park; Hirsch Jacobs S. at Pimlico; and Providencia S. at
Santa Anita.

Twenty races were downgraded from Grade 3 to ungraded status: the
Affectionately H., Fall Highweight H. and Ladies H. at Aqueduct; Arlington
Breeders’ Cup Oaks at Arlington Park; Lawrence Realization S. and Pebbles S. at
Belmont Park; Chaposa Springs H. at Calder Race Course; Derby Trial S. at
Churchill Downs; Brown Bess H. and Golden Gate Derby at Golden Gate Fields;
Canadian Turf H. and Spectacular Bid S. at Gulfstream Park; Landaluce S. at
Hollywood Park; Anne Arundel S. at Laurel Park; Jersey Derby at Monmouth Park;
Donald Levine Memorial H. at Philadelphia Park; Martha Washington Breeders’ Cup
S. at Pimlico; Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park; Cradle S.
at River Downs; and San Miguel S. at Santa Anita. The De La Rose H. and Ft.
Lauderdale H. at Gulfstream Park and the New Hampshire Sweepstakes H. at
Rockingham Park were not eligible for grading in 2005.
