In addition to garnering two classics and the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf
(G1),
OUIJA BOARD (GB) (Cape Cross [Ire]) was awarded the title Racehorse of the Year
at the Racehorse Owners’
Association (ROA) Horseracing Awards at the Park Lane Hilton in
London on Thursday.
The
homebred sophomore came out on top in a poll of the ROA’s near 7,000 members and Racing Post
readers. She also took home the outstanding three-year-old filly title while
owner Lord Derby was named owner of the year.
Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) and
Champion S. (Eng-G1) hero HAAFHD (Alhaarth) took the honors for outstanding
three-year-old colt, and SOVIET SONG (Marju) gained compensation for
finishing runner-up in the Horse of the Year poll by taking the outstanding
older horse title. Promising Group 1 winners DAMSON (Entrepreneur) and SHAMARDAL
(Giant’s Causeway) headed the
two-year-old
filly and colt divisions, respectively.
Hong Kong Sprint (HK-G1) hopeful PIVOTAL POINT (Pivotal) took outstanding handicapper honors.
