Arlington Park released its 2005 stakes schedule on Tuesday with 25 stakes
worth more than $5.3 million. The International Festival of Racing, which
features the Arlington Million (G1), Beverly D. S. (G1) and Secretariat S. (G1),
once again highlights the calendar and will be held on August 13. Arlington’s
2005 meet begins May 13 and runs through September 18.
“The International Festival of Racing…will be the centerpiece of our 2005
stakes schedule,” Arlington Park Executive Vice President of Racing Operations
and Racing Secretary Frank Gabriel Jr. said. “Other major events include the
Prairie State Festival for Illinois-bred horses on Saturday, June 25, Million
Preview Day on Saturday, July 23, and the final day of the meet on Sunday,
September 18, when we will run our two premier events for two-year-olds — the
Arlington-Washington Breeders’ Cup Futurity (G3) and the Arlington-Washington
Breeders’ Cup Lassie (G3).”
The Mid-America Triple, which showcases three-year-old turf horses, will kick
off with Arlington Classic (G3) on July 2. The July 23 American Derby (G2) comes
next and the series concludes with the 1 1/4-mile Secretariat. The entire stakes
