Changes made for Royal Ascot
meet
This year’s Royal Ascot meeting at York took shape on Tuesday with the
announcement that two of the major contests will undergo slight changes to their
distances.
Officials at Ascot unveiled the running order for the June 14-18 festival,
with the news that the traditional mile events, including the Queen Anne S.
(Eng-G1), St James’s Palace S. (Eng-G1) and Coronation S. (Eng-G1), will be
shortened to seven furlongs and 205 yards. Among the other changes, the Prince
of Wales’s S. (Eng-G1) will be run 88 yards farther than its usual 10 furlongs.
York has also imposed a reduced safety-limit restriction of 20 runners in the
5 1/2-furlong contests, including the King’s Stand S. (Eng-G2), and of 23
participants in the seven-furlong races.
