Dream of Summer, House of Fortune head Kalookan Queen

A graded stakes quality field of older fillies and mares will line up for
Wednesday’s $75,000 Kalookan Queen H. at Santa Anita, and some of the distaffers in
the 10-horse field will likely use the 6 1/2-furlong event as a stepping stone
toward the Sunshine Millions program at Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park on
January 29.

A Gleam Invitational H. (G2) winner DREAM OF SUMMER (Siberian Summer),
unbeaten in two starts at Santa Anita and four starts at this distance, could go
forth as the favorite in the Kalookan Queen. Trained by Juan Garcia, the gray
has won her last five starts, including a game victory in
the California Cup Matron H. in her most recent outing on October 16. Regular rider Mike Smith has the
call.

HOUSE OF FORTUNE (Free House), winner of the Fantasy S. (G2) and Hollywood
Breeders’ Cup Oaks (G2) earlier this year, suffered an entrapped epiglottis
while fading to last in the October 10 Spinster S. (G1) at Keeneland. The
dark bay has been training forwardly since then for conditioner Ron McAnally and
rates a top threat.

The sleeper could be TIZAKITTY (Distinctive Cat), who exits solid two-length
score over second-level allowance foes going six furlongs at Hollywood Park in
early November.

Multiple stakes winner VALENTINE DANCER (In Excess [Ire]) and Grade 3-placed
BARBARA ORR (Tale of the Cat) are other contenders.
