Ron Manzani & Russell Sarno’s AREYOUTALKINTOME (Smokester) raced with the
pace in between Woke Up Dreamin (Holy Bull) and Hombre Rapido (Falstaff) in
Sunday’s $110,500
El Conejo H. (G3) at Santa Anita, before asserting himself in
the stretch and pulling away to record a 1 3/4-length victory. The trio traveled
through splits of :21 1/5, :43 4/5 and :56 in the 5 1/2-furlong wet fast track
test, but it was Aryoutalkintome and jockey Tyler Baze who set the final time of
1:02 2/5.
Sent off at 9-2 in the nine-horse field, Areyoutalkintome paid out $11.80,
$5.20 and $4. Hombre Rapido moved up along his outside position to take second
by 1 1/2 lengths over Woke Up Dreaming, returning $5 and $4 at 7-2. Show gave
back $4 while the exotics were worth $24.20 for the exacta ($1) and $214.20 for
the trifecta ($1). Revello (Memo [Chi]) finished the 5-8-4-1 superfecta ($1)
that paid $674.60, and next under the line came McCann’s Mojave (Memo [Chi]),
Don’tsellmeshort (Benchmark), Day Trader (Phone Trick), Britt’s Jules (Jules)
and Bluesthestandard (American Standard).
Trained by Doug O’Neill, Aryoutalkintome was making his graded debut in this
one and improved his mark to 15-6-5-3 and $349,292 in earnings with the victory.
Prior to Sunday’s score, the four-year-old gelding already owned scores in the
California Cup Sprint H. and Real Good Deal S.
Bred in California by John Toffan & Trudy McCaffery, Areyoutalkintome brought
$10,000 as a Barretts October yearling. He is the first registered foal out of
Andrea Gail (Storm Bird) and has an unnamed juvenile half-brother by Smokester.

O’Neill, who trained four winners on Sunday’s card, said Areyoutalkintome
would probably point for the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint on January 29.
