Louisiana Stallion Stakes program returns

Last updated: 1/18/05 5:07 PM

The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association (LTBA) plans to revive the
Louisiana Stallion Stakes program, which was discontinued in the early 1990s.

“With the dramatic increase in purses and breeders awards in recent years,
due largely to the legalization of slot machines at Delta Downs, Evangeline
Downs and Louisiana Downs, and the subsequent influx of many new stallions to
the state, the LTBA board felt it was the right time to revive the series,” LTBA
Executive Secretary Tom Early said.

Each race in the series is expected to offer a purse in excess of $100,000
and is restricted to Louisiana-bred two-year-olds who are by a participating
Louisiana stallion. The first races, with separate divisions for males and
females, will be staged in the late summer or early fall of 2008.

Nominating a stallion for the 2005 breeding season will make foals of 2006
eligible to be nominated to the series. Foals will then have to nominated after
they are born or may be nominated late in their yearling year at the late
nomination fee.
