Evelyn M. Pollard’s SARATOGA COUNTY (Valid Expectations) confirmed that he is
a sprinter to watch in the upcoming year after powering to a 2
1/2-length win in the $100,000
Mr. Prospector H. (G3) Saturday at Gulfstream
Park.
Ridden by jockey Javier Castellano, the four-year-old colt
made a last-to-first run in the six-furlong event as he trailed through splits
of :21 4/5 and :44 2/5 before eating up ground to pass his nine competitors.
Saratoga County motored home in a stretch call of :56 4/5, stopping the clock in
1:08 4/5 on a track listed as fast.
The winning colt paid $9.80, $5.40 and $4.20 to his backers at nearly 4-1,
starting a $34 exacta ($1) with Limehouse (Grand Slam) on the bottom end. The
runner-up gave back $5.40 and $4 for his effort at 9-2. All Hail Stormy (Stormy Atlantic) trailed
the two leaders to complete the $779.60 trifecta ($1) and return $13.20 for
third
at nearly 30-1. Wando (Langfuhr) left the gate at 10-1 and landed just off the
board, but managed to complete the nice $10,038.60 superfecta (4-9-7-3) ($1).
Choose (Arch), Voodoo (Petionville), 7-2 favorite Shake You Down (Montbrook),
Strength and Honor (Carson City), Thunder Touch (Gulch) and Deputy Storm (Forestry) rounded out the
order of finish.

This victory was Saratoga County’s second straight, after scoring by 5 1/4 lengths
last out against allowance company for
conditioner George Weaver. Earlier in the year, the bay colt captured the Gotham S. (G3) at Aqueduct
and his mark now stands at 15-4-4-1 with earnings of $326,590.
Saratoga County was bred in Kentucky by Round Table LLC and is out of Grub’s
Dancer (Grub). He is a half-brother to an unnamed three-year-old colt by
Yankee Victor and a two-year-old filly by Valid Expectations.
