The New York Racing Association (NYRA) has suspended Clerk of Scales Mario
Sclafani and Assistant Clerk of Scales Braulio Baeza with pay until further
notice, pending further developments in an ongoing investigation being conducted
by NYRA and law enforcement agencies.
The investigation began last month when information developed by the Special
Oversight Committee of the NYRA board of trustees was provided to the New York
attorney general’s office.
“Our policy remains to cooperate fully with all government and law
enforcement agencies to protect our customers and the integrity of Thoroughbred
racing,” NYRA President and CEO Charles E. Hayward said.
