Undefeated three-year-old ROCKPORT HARBOR (Unbridled’s Song) breezed for the
first time on Wednesday since taking the Remsen S. (G2) at Aqueduct in late
November. The gray colt suffered a gash to his right hind leg during the running
of that race, but still managed to pull off the neck victory.
Rockport Harbor worked five furlongs over Oaklawn Park’s fast track
underneath exercise rider Bobby Velez. The colt went through fractions of :13
1/5, :25 2/5, :38 and :49 2/5 before finishing
out his work in 1:02. The sophomore galloped out
three-quarters in 1:16 2/5.
“I did not carry a stick,” Velez said. “And I was merely trying to keep him
together for the first part. At the head of the stretch, he switched to his
right lead and really picked it up. At the eighth pole I grabbed him because he
wanted to do more than we wanted.”
Rockport Harbor’s last work came on October 30 at Philadelphia Park, the home
base of his trainer, John Servis. The conditioner indicated his charge could
make his sophomore debut in the February 19 Southwest S. at Oaklawn.
GREATER GOOD (Intidab), another top three-year-old at Oaklawn, breezed a half-mile in :50 1/5 for trainer Bob Holthus
on Wednesday. The bay colt
won the November 27 Kentucky
Jockey Club S. (G2) at Churchill Downs in his last start and is
expected to make his 2005 debut in the Southwest.
