Amerman Racing Stables LLC’s FENCELINENEIGHBOR (Wild Rush) and jockey Luis Jauregui
went right to the lead in Saturday’s $150,000
San Gorgonio H. (G3) and never surrendered
the lead, holding off early pressure from Drought Breaker (Steinlen [GB]) on the
backstretch and Uraib (Ire) (Mark of Esteem [Ire]) in the lane. Originally
slated for the turf, the nine-furlong contest was moved to the sloppy main
track, which resulted in six scratches and a five-horse field. The San Gorgonio
was downgraded from a Grade 2 after the surface switch, pending a review by the
American Graded Stakes Committee.

“She broke and wanted the lead so I let her have it,” Jauregui said.
“Whatever she wanted to do. The only thing I was worried about was she got a
little aggressive in the first part and pulled her saddle up there, but once we
settled down on the backside, I knew I had a lot of horse left.”

Sent off at 7-5, Fencelineneighbor shot out of the gate with Drought Breaker
just behind her. Shezsospiritual (Fly till Dawn) rated just behind those two through the opening
quarter in :23 2/5 while 6-1 shot Dolly Wells (Arg) (Poliglote [GB]) was
positioned within striking distance after a half in :47 2/5. Uraib and Jon Court
commenced their rally after three quarters in 1:11 2/5, pressuring the leader
but never getting in front.

After a mile in 1:36 3/5, Fencelineneighbor was
still in front, keeping the tiring Uraib at bay as Drought Breaker began to tail
off and Dolly Wells moved up. The Michael Machowsky trainee stopped the clock in 1:49 4/5 for the
1 1/8-miles with Uraib in second and Dolly Wells getting up for the show. The
winner returned $4.80, $3.20 and $2.40 while keying the $8 exacta ($1). Uraib
was worth $3.20 and $2.60 at nearly 3-1 while Dolly Wells returned $3 on the
bottom of the $35.70 trifecta ($1). Drought Breaker completed the $42.30 superfecta
(4-11-5-6) ($1). Shezsospiritual finished out the field.

Ask for the Moon (Fr) (Dr Fong), Hoh Buzzard (Ire) (Alhaarth), Megahertz (GB) (Pivotal), Navaja
(NZ) (Daggers Drawn), Penny’s Fortune (Storm Cat) and Theater R. N. (Theatrical
[Ire]) were withdrawn.

Bred in Florida by Marablue Farm, Fencelineneighbor improved her
mark to 26-8-5-5 with earnings of $467,257. This was the dark bay mare’s first
graded score, but she previously captured three stakes and placed in five
others. Out of
the stakes-winning Let Fly (Flying Paster), she has an unnamed yearling
half-sister by Tactical Advantage.
