Undefeated Hollywood Futurity (G1) winner DECLAN’S MOON (Malibu Moon), the
Eclipse Award winner for champion two-year-old of 2004, breezed six furlongs in
a bullet 1:12 3/5 over a fast track at Hollywood Park on Wednesday. The workout,
his fourth of the year, was the fastest of 18 at the distance. Declan’s Moon
worked five furlongs in a bullet :59 4/5 last Thursday at Hollywood Park.
“That says it all,” trainer Ron Ellis said. “Yes, he’s surprising me as well
as he’s going. He’s stronger than he was and he’s ready to run right now.”
The dark bay gelding is scheduled to make his three-year-old debut in the
Santa Catalina S. (G2) at 1 1/16 miles on March 5.
Ellis said that LONG RANGE MISSILE (Tactical Cat), an undefeated
three-year-old, has recovered from a vein infection in his throat and is back on
track, but not expected to race until April, or later.
