SUN KING (Charismatic), the third-place finisher in the Breeders’ Cup
Juvenile (G1) and Champagne S. (G1), will make his seasonal bow on Saturday at
Gulfstream Park in the 10TH race, the second of two one-mile allowance events
for three-year-olds on the card. Ten sophomores have been entered for each
allowance, and the Nick Zito-trained Sun King will break from post 7 with jockey
Edgar Prado in the saddle.
Sun King, who owns an overall mark of 4-1-0-2, has recorded six workouts at
Palm Meadows Training Center in preparation for his first start at three. His
top rivals include SURVIVALIST (Danzig), who was moved up to second following a
troubled trip in his first outing this year, and impressive maiden winner MONARCH
LANE (Maria’s Mon).
The first allowance race goes as the 7TH and contains another promising
sophomore in Zito’s shedrow, INDY STORM (A.P. Indy), the multiple stakes-placed
FAVRE (Montbrook) and ALL TRUMPS (Grand Slam), who will be making his first
start since an unplaced finish in the Champagne S. (G1).
Tampa Bay Downs will host the $100,000
Sam F.
Davis S. for three-year-olds on Saturday and a field of 13 has been
assembled. Stakes winners KILLENAULE (Fusaichi Pegasus) and G P’S BLACK KNIGHT
(Tiger Ridge) are a couple of the leading contenders for the 8 1/2-furlong
affair.
