CHANDTRUE (Yes It’s True) is set to kick off his sophomore campaign in the
$100,000 Baldwin S. (G3) at Santa Anita Saturday. The bay
colt rides a four-race win streak coming into the about 6 1/2-furlong turf event and
will most likely be leaving the gate at low odds, so we will take SUNNY SKY (Fr)
(Septieme Ciel) to win this one.

The chestnut made a terrific run in the Generous S. (G3) at Hollywood Park
last November in his U.S. debut to finish a close third. He possesses
some good late-end speed, posting a BRIS Late Pace figure of 97 last time, the highest in
this field. This should prove beneficial, as there are four front runners here
who look to get this race started at a fairly fast clip. Sunny Sky is now under
the tutelage of Julio Canani and has been putting together some solid works
since the trainer switch. Jockey Rene Douglas, who rode the colt in the
Generous, once again has the call.

Although undefeated in four career starts, Chandtrue will make his first
attempt on the grass and drew the 12 post position. However, the Bob Hess Jr.
charge has overcome obstacles in the past when he bobbled at the start of the
Willard L. Proctor Memorial S., was taken five wide and still managed to win by
four lengths. Corey Nakatani rode Chandtrue in three of his four wins and will
ride the colt again Saturday.

TALKING TO JOHN (Souvenir Copy) has one race under his belt on the grass,
which happened to be at this same distance at Santa Anita. He was able to pull
away in the end after chasing a very fast pace for trainer Steve
Knapp and should fare well in this one.

EASTERN SAND (Line in the Sand) comes off a pair of close seconds in the
Arthur I Appleton Juvenile Turf S. and Hill Rise S. last out. Trainer Jeff
Mullins will be adding blinkers to the gelding, which could give him the needed
advantage to win. This will be his first sprint on the turf and the chestnut
might need more room, but he’s still a dangerous threat. HIGH STANDARDS (High Brite) has only two races under his belt, but both have
been impressive. The chestnut gelding won first while out on the front end and
took command of his next race against allowance company at Bay Meadows.
The undefeated colt, who will test the stakes waters for the first
time in his first grass trip, merits watching.

RUN THRUTHE SUN (Memo [Chi]) is another who will be making his first turf
start in this one. He broke a two-race win streak last out with a disappointing
performance in the Sunshine Millions Dash, ending up fifth, 12 1/2 lengths
behind the winner. Run Thruthe Sun will be making his first start for trainer
Lloyd Wicker, who has been able to put 25 percent of his runners in the winner’s
circle in their first turf start, and could hit the bottom of the gimmicks. Eastern Sand’s uncoupled stablemate, HESABULLY (Hesabull), comes off a
two-race win streak against allowance company. The gelding will be making his
first start on the lawn, but could grab part under Tyler Baze, who has ridden the
chestnut to two wins since the colt made the switch to Mullins three starts
back.

BUSHWACKER (Outflanker) put in a substandard effort in the Sunshine Millions
Dash, eventually winding up eighth. We can’t recommend his chances. IL COLOSSEO (Ire)
(Spectrum) comes off a pair of wins in his homeland and will make his U.S. debut Saturday. Trainer Mike Puhich will be giving Il Colosseo Lasix
for the first time, which could benefit the gelding, but we are still going to bet
against. ORBIT’S WORLD (Unusual Heat) won his maiden after eight attempts and comes
off an allowance win. He does not look ready for this competition after just two
victories in 10 starts. CAMMIES FUTURE (GB) (Efisio) will be making his first
trip on U.S. turf but will probably be overmatched here. THE PHEASANT FLYER (GB)
(Prince Sabo) is also making his U.S. unveiling, but comes off a poor
performance in a Group 3 and we’ll just watch for now.
